DESCRIPTION
The Patient Care Coordinator serves as a key point of contact for patients and their families, supporting the coordination of care by scheduling appointments, managing patient information, and facilitating communication between patients, providers, and care teams. This role ensures a seamless patient experience by assisting with administrative processes, coordinating services, and addressing patient needs in a professional and compassionate manner. The Patient Services Coordinator works collaboratively with clinical and administrative teams to support efficient clinic operations while delivering exceptional customer service in alignment with Emory Healthcare’s standards.
Responsibilities
Patient Scheduling & Coordination
- Schedule appointments for new and established patients.
- Schedule return visits and ancillary appointments as needed.
- Coordinate imaging, procedures, and additional services within the clinic.
- Register new patients and assist with scheduling requests.
Patient Information & Documentation
- Complete and maintain patient data forms and records.
- Retrieve and manage medical records as required.
- Coordinate provider referrals and ensure appropriate documentation is obtained.
Administrative & Operational Support
- Serve as an administrative resource for staff in coordinating patient care.
- Assist in resolving patient concerns and collaborate with management to address or escalate complaints when appropriate.
- Provide coverage for front desk and other administrative staff as needed.
- Support training for new Patient Services Coordinators and other administrative team members.
Authorization & Compliance
- Complete precertification and authorization processes as required to support patient services and insurance requirements.
Additional Responsibilities
- Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education
High school diploma or GED required.
Experience
Minimum of 12 months of customer service experience or
6 months of healthcare experience in a similar role required.
A bachelor’s degree, or enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program, may be considered in lieu of required experience.

- Demonstrated ability to provide a high level of customer service.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Empathy and compassion when interacting with patients and families.
Physical Requirements
Medium: 20-50 lbs; 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 50 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

Factors affecting environment conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks. Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure, Bio-hazardous waste, Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors, Communicable diseases, Electrical shock, Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation, Shift work, Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
