Project Development Manager Jobs in Massachusetts: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a project development manager in Massachusetts?
Most project development managers in Massachusetts enter the role with a bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, urban planning, or business, followed by several years in project coordination or analyst roles. No single state-issued license is required, but earning a Project Management Professional credential strengthens candidacy significantly. Many Massachusetts employers in energy and real estate also value familiarity with Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act review and local permitting workflows as differentiators.
How much do project development managers make in Massachusetts?
Project development managers in Massachusetts earn a median of about $114,190 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $72,800 for the lowest 10% to over $174,840 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire project development managers in Massachusetts?
Employers hiring project development managers in Massachusetts right now include State Street, Applied Materials, and Brigham & Women'S Faulkner Hospital, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Massachusetts's concentration of energy utilities, academic medical centers, and large general contractors means hiring is consistent across both the private and public sectors throughout the year.
Which Massachusetts cities have the most project development manager jobs?
Boston, Cambridge, and Waltham have the most project development manager openings in Massachusetts. Boston drives the largest share through its concentration of development firms, hospital systems, and energy companies, while Cambridge adds volume from its biotech and institutional campuses, and Worcester reflects growing regional infrastructure and healthcare expansion projects anchored by employers like UMass Memorial Health.
Are there remote project development manager jobs in Massachusetts?
Yes, but they're limited. About 25% of project development manager openings tied to Massachusetts are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the role's frequent requirement for site visits, stakeholder meetings, and hands-on coordination. The parts of the work most suited to remote arrangements are financial modeling, reporting, and early-stage feasibility analysis rather than active construction or permitting phases.
How can I get hired as a project development manager in Massachusetts with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a project coordinator or development associate role, which large Massachusetts employers in energy, real estate, and healthcare use as their primary pipeline. Companies like Eversource, National Grid, and major Boston-based developers run structured associate programs that build exposure to permitting, budgeting, and scheduling. Earning a CAPM credential, building a portfolio of college or volunteer project work, and targeting roles titled project analyst or development coordinator opens the door without senior experience.
Where can I find and apply to project development manager jobs in Massachusetts?
You can find and apply to project development manager jobs in Massachusetts on Migrate Mate, which lists current Massachusetts openings across industries including energy, construction, healthcare, and real estate. Find the roles that fit your background and apply directly to the employers posting them.
