Purchasing Specialist Jobs in Colorado: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a purchasing specialist in Colorado?
Most purchasing specialist roles in Colorado require a bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business, or a closely related field, and Colorado does not issue a state-specific license for this occupation. Employers in the Denver metro and Colorado Springs defense corridor strongly favor candidates who hold or are pursuing the Certified Professional in Supply Management credential through the Institute for Supply Management. Practical experience with procurement software and knowledge of federal acquisition regulations is a meaningful advantage for roles tied to Colorado's aerospace and government contracting sectors.
How much do purchasing specialists make in Colorado?
Purchasing specialists in Colorado earn a median of about $55,210 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $39,270 for the lowest 10% to over $71,100 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire purchasing specialists in Colorado?
Companies currently hiring purchasing specialists in Colorado include Sanmina, Hercules Industries, and Vantage Data Centers, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Colorado's concentration of aerospace, defense, and healthcare anchor employers means purchasing roles here often require industry-specific sourcing knowledge beyond general procurement experience.
Which Colorado cities have the most purchasing specialist jobs?
Denver, Littleton, and Colorado Springs account for the largest share of purchasing specialist openings in Colorado. Denver's broad commercial and healthcare base drives the highest overall volume, while Colorado Springs reflects the region's dense defense and aerospace contractor presence, and cities like Aurora and Broomfield benefit from major corporate campuses and distribution operations anchored there.
Are there remote purchasing specialist jobs in Colorado?
Yes, though they are less common than in purely analytical roles because purchasing specialists often need to coordinate directly with on-site receiving, warehouse, and operations teams. About 50% of purchasing specialist openings tied to Colorado are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, with remote arrangements more common for senior buyers managing vendor relationships than for entry-level roles tied to physical inventory.
How can I get hired as a purchasing specialist in Colorado with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a purchasing coordinator or procurement technician role, which large Colorado employers such as UCHealth, Lockheed Martin, and Xcel Energy use to bring in candidates without full buyer experience. A degree in supply chain or business combined with an in-progress CPSM credential signals readiness even without extensive history. Adjacent roles in inventory control, accounts payable, or logistics at Colorado distribution centers or healthcare systems frequently transition into purchasing positions when openings arise internally.
Where can I find and apply to purchasing specialist jobs in Colorado?
You can find and apply to purchasing specialist jobs in Colorado on Migrate Mate, which lists current Colorado openings updated regularly. Find roles that fit your background and apply directly to the employers posting them.
