Sales Director Jobs in Tennessee: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a sales director in Tennessee?
Most sales director roles in Tennessee require a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related discipline, followed by several years of progressive sales and leadership experience. Tennessee does not issue a state license specifically for sales directors, so advancement typically comes through building a record in industries dominant here, such as healthcare technology, logistics, or manufacturing. Professional credentials like the Certified Sales Leadership Professional designation can strengthen a candidacy with Tennessee employers.
How much do sales directors make in Tennessee?
Sales directors in Tennessee earn a median of about $128,040 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $67,220 for the lowest 10% to over $231,830 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire sales directors in Tennessee?
Employers hiring sales directors in Tennessee right now include AMETEK, Allegro Living, and TriStar Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Tennessee's mix of healthcare systems, distribution companies, and manufacturing operations means demand for sales leadership is spread across several distinct industries rather than concentrated in a single sector.
Which Tennessee cities have the most sales director jobs?
Nashville, Memphis, and Brentwood account for the greatest concentration of sales director openings in Tennessee. Nashville leads because of its dense healthcare, finance, and technology employer base, while Memphis draws heavily from logistics, distribution, and supply chain companies tied to its role as a major freight hub, and Knoxville reflects demand from manufacturing and energy sector employers in East Tennessee.
Are there remote sales director jobs in Tennessee?
Yes, and more than many roles, since sales directors often manage distributed teams and client relationships that lend themselves to remote or hybrid arrangements. About 60% of sales director openings tied to Tennessee are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, making it a meaningful portion of the market. Strategic and leadership functions tend to allow the most flexibility, while roles focused on direct territory management typically require a physical presence.
How can I get hired as a sales director in Tennessee with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a sales director role from a senior individual contributor or sales manager position, not directly from an entry-level role. Large Tennessee employers such as HCA Healthcare and FedEx run structured leadership development programs that place high-performing account managers and regional reps on a track toward director-level responsibility. Building experience in healthcare, logistics, or manufacturing sales, the industries that dominate Tennessee hiring, and earning credentials like the Certified Sales Leadership Professional designation can accelerate that progression.
Where can I find and apply to sales director jobs in Tennessee?
You can find and apply to sales director jobs in Tennessee on Migrate Mate, which lists current Tennessee openings updated regularly. Find roles that match your background and apply directly to the ones that fit.
