Security Sales Engineer Jobs in Kansas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a security sales engineer in Kansas?
Most employers in Kansas look for a technical degree in engineering, computer science, or information technology combined with demonstrated sales aptitude. Kansas does not require a state-issued license specifically for security sales engineers, though roles involving low-voltage installation oversight may require familiarity with Kansas low-voltage contractor licensing requirements administered through local jurisdictions. Earning a vendor-neutral credential like CompTIA Security+ or a platform-specific cert from Cisco or Palo Alto Networks strengthens candidacy considerably with Kansas employers.
How much do security sales engineers make in Kansas?
Security sales engineers in Kansas earn a median of about $98,000 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $69,990 for the lowest 10% to over $159,210 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire security sales engineers in Kansas?
Companies currently hiring security sales engineers in Kansas include Garmin, Shamrock Trading Corporation, and Koch, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Kansas's mix of manufacturing, energy, and government contractors creates consistent demand for engineers who can sell both physical and cyber-integrated security solutions across enterprise and public-sector accounts.
Which Kansas cities have the most security sales engineer jobs?
Overland Park, Olathe, and Topeka have the most security sales engineer openings in Kansas. Overland Park and Kansas City benefit from a dense concentration of corporate headquarters, financial services firms, and regional technology hubs that generate sustained enterprise security sales cycles, while Wichita's aerospace and manufacturing base drives demand for industrial and physical security solutions tied to large facility accounts.
Are there remote security sales engineer jobs in Kansas?
Yes, and more than many technical roles, given that security sales engineers spend significant time in customer-facing and consultative work that can happen virtually. About 59% of security sales engineer openings tied to Kansas are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how broadly vendors use distributed sales teams in the region. Pre-sales design, proposal work, and solution demos are the parts of the role most commonly performed remotely.
How can I get hired as a security sales engineer in Kansas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving from a technical support or inside sales role at a Kansas-based managed security services provider or value-added reseller, where you gain product knowledge and customer exposure before transitioning to field sales. Large employers like Evergy and regional Cisco or Motorola Solutions channel partners often hire associate or sales development representatives and promote internally. Completing a vendor certification and building a portfolio of completed technical proposals or proof-of-concept projects gives candidates a meaningful edge when competing for junior openings.
