Security Sales Engineer Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a security sales engineer in Texas?
Most security sales engineers in Texas enter the field through a technical degree in computer science, information technology, or electrical engineering, combined with hands-on experience in IT, networking, or cybersecurity. Texas does not require a state-issued license specific to this role, but employers widely expect certifications such as CompTIA Security+, Certified Ethical Hacker, or vendor credentials from Cisco or Palo Alto Networks. Building pre-sales or systems engineering experience at a Texas-based technology reseller or managed security provider is the most direct path to a full security sales engineer role.
How much do security sales engineers make in Texas?
Security sales engineers in Texas earn a median of about $130,610 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $78,730 for the lowest 10% to over $201,850 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire security sales engineers in Texas?
Employers hiring security sales engineers in Texas right now include Kastle Systems, Cognizant, and Hewlett Packard Enterprise | HPE, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's dense concentration of energy, healthcare, financial services, and defense contractors creates consistent demand for security sales engineers who can serve both commercial and government clients.
Which Texas cities have the most security sales engineer jobs?
Dallas, Austin, and Houston have the most security sales engineer openings in Texas. Houston's energy and petrochemical industries generate strong demand for operational technology security, Dallas anchors a major financial services and corporate headquarters corridor, and Austin's technology sector draws cybersecurity vendors and integrators who staff local pre-sales teams to serve a rapidly expanding enterprise client base.
Are there remote security sales engineer jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most technical sales roles, since much of the pre-sales and solution architecture work can be done remotely. About 67% of security sales engineer openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the role's heavy reliance on video-based discovery calls and virtual demonstrations. On-site presence is still expected for enterprise proof-of-concept deployments and major client meetings, particularly in regulated sectors like healthcare and finance.
How can I get hired as a security sales engineer in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a junior or associate sales engineer role at a Texas-based value-added reseller or managed security services provider, where you support senior engineers on client engagements before owning accounts. Large Texas employers like Presidio and Trace3 regularly bring in recent graduates or lateral movers from network administration, help desk, or cybersecurity analyst roles. Earning a vendor certification from Cisco, Palo Alto, or Fortinet before applying gives candidates a concrete edge, and community college IT programs through institutions like Austin Community College can accelerate that credential path.
Where can I find and apply to security sales engineer jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to security sales engineer jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across major metro areas and remote positions tied to the state. Search the available roles, find ones that fit your background and target location, and apply directly to employers without needing to create a profile or sign up.
