We are looking for an inspiring Sr. Software Engineering Manager that can lead our teams in developing, innovating and launching digital insurance products at scale. You will be a thought leader in the broader Central engineering community as well as a business partner to our stakeholders. You will be leading a technology product roadmap, articulating the story internally and externally, shaping a long-term strategy, and leading several teams towards execution. We expect our leaders to be coaches and people development is a critical focus for this role. We are looking for someone who can influence business decisions by furthering a data-driven and analytical culture. We expect a high-performing individual to have strong experience in leveraging data to influence organizational decisions, innovate new methods for improvement.
Key Responsibilities of the Role
- Engages with senior management to establish strategic plans and objectives.
- Assists in creation of technology strategy and engineering roadmaps by partnering with other engineering managers, directors, and stakeholders on one or more teams.
- Communicates multi-year functional strategy. Sets expectations for team and holds them accountable for results.
- Direct strategies around technology equipment/software negotiation, procurement, and inventory management. Manage assigned vendor relationships and assist with budget and contracts where applicable. Provide input on refresh strategies to leadership.
- Accountable for continuous improvement of team through mentorship, deepened technical aptitude, and professional development.
- Organizes and unblocks collaboration and partnership at multiple levels, across business groups and functions to achieve the organizational mission.
- Responsible for managing team workloads through capacity planning, process improvement, and staffing.
- Evaluates performance of team members following Central’s performance management process. holds employees to organizational standards.
- Audit team performance through the development of SLAs and KPIs. Report against them on a regular basis as required.
- Design incident management reactions and responses. Execute response when necessary.
- Lead engineers on multiple product-facing teams.
- Make final decisions on implementation and ensure operational effectiveness.
- Translates user requirements into executable work items that the software engineering team can implement in the product.
- Has the detailed technical knowledge necessary to explain feature requirements to developers and work with them to deliver these product improvements to end users and is able to lean in and deliver real work when necessary.
- Partners with cross-functional software development teams to help them prioritize, plan, track and execute complex, cross organizational programs.
- Has in-depth experience in systems design.
- Conduct managerial interviews for candidates.
- Master’s degree in Computer Science and 4 years of related experience including 1 year management experience
- Or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and 6 years related experience including 1 year management experience
- Or 8 years related experience including 1 year of management experience
- Technical credibility: Experience as a senior engineer or tech lead, or leading software engineering teams.
- Strong leadership skills, including coaching, team building, and conflict resolution.
- Advanced project management skills including time and risk management, resource prioritization, and project structuring.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage human capital across geographies to drive workforce development and achieve desired results.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including negotiation, presentation, and influence skills.
- Advanced business acumen, technical knowledge, and extensive knowledge in applications and technologies.
- Strong multi-tasking and prioritization skills.
- Good understanding of Central Insurance’s policies and processes.
