About the Opportunity
JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Patient Care and Operations Manager, the Patient Service Specialist performs an array of administrative duties using specific knowledge of medical terminology and hospital, clinic, or laboratory procedures. Duties will include reception, registration, and scheduling of patients; answering a high volume of phone calls; working with clinical providers regarding patient requests, concerns, and services in person and/or by means of an electronic messaging system; data entry; and other health center-related correspondence.
This is a 40-hour-a-week position that includes one late night a week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Professional, diplomatic, reliable, personable, and consistent customer service skills.
- Proficiency in using Windows-based personal computer workstations, sufficient to demonstrate proficiency in several computer-based applications after training. This includes EClinical Works (ECW), Five9, and other software.
- Ability to process phone and in-person inquiries in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to provide clear, consistent, and accurate detailed information regarding University Health and Counseling Services.
- Must work exceptionally well with students identifying as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color), LGBTQ students, international students, and other under-represented students and communities on campus. Knowledge and skills required for this position are often obtained with at least two years of related office experience, preferably in a university/college health center or an applicable customer service setting and a high school diploma or GED.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Reception, registration, and scheduling of patients both in-person and over the telephone.
- Data entry: Review student immunization records, verify compliance, and enter information into the electronic medical record. Review and respond to correspondence. Interview patients to complete documents, case histories, and forms such as intake and insurance forms. Compiles and records medical charts, reports, and correspondence using a computer and various software programs. Transmits correspondence and medical records by mail, email, or fax.
- Communicate with clinical providers regarding patient requests, concerns, and services in person and/or by means of an electronic messaging system.
- Correspondence: Manage and respond to questions/requests received via email, process requests for release of medical records, etc.
