Social Media Manager Jobs in Tennessee: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a social media manager in Tennessee?
Social media management is not a licensed profession in Tennessee, so there is no state board or required credential to practice. Most Tennessee employers expect a bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or a related field, plus a portfolio of real campaigns. Certifications from Meta Blueprint or Google Analytics strengthen applications. Building experience through internships with Nashville agencies, Memphis nonprofits, or Knoxville-area brands is a common and effective entry path.
How much do social media managers make in Tennessee?
Social media managers in Tennessee earn a median of about $69,790 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $39,480 for the lowest 10% to over $134,740 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire social media managers in Tennessee?
Employers hiring social media managers in Tennessee right now include Essential HealthCare Solutions, Tombras, and The Plumbing Authority, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Tennessee's concentration of healthcare systems, logistics companies, and music-industry brands means in-house social teams are common across a wider range of employer types than in many other states.
Which Tennessee cities have the most social media manager jobs?
Nashville, Knoxville, and Memphis account for the most social media manager openings in Tennessee. Nashville leads because it is home to a dense cluster of corporate headquarters, healthcare systems, and a nationally prominent entertainment industry, while Memphis is anchored by major logistics and retail brands, and Knoxville reflects growth from the University of Tennessee and its surrounding business community.
Are there remote social media manager jobs in Tennessee?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 41% of social media manager openings tied to Tennessee are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how naturally this role translates to distributed work. Content creation, community management, and reporting functions are the most consistently remote, while roles tied to event coverage or on-site brand activation tend to require a local presence.
How can I get hired as a social media manager in Tennessee with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a marketing coordinator or communications assistant role at a Nashville agency, Memphis nonprofit, or university communications office, where social media responsibilities are included alongside broader duties. Large Tennessee healthcare employers like Vanderbilt University Medical Center and regional hospital networks hire marketing associates who grow into dedicated social roles. Building a portfolio through volunteer or freelance work for local businesses, then pursuing a Meta Blueprint certification, gives candidates a measurable edge without prior full-time experience.
