Staff Accountant Jobs in Alabama: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a staff accountant in Alabama?
Most staff accountant roles in Alabama require a bachelor's degree in accounting or a closely related field. While no state license is required to work as a staff accountant, many Alabama employers prefer candidates who are actively pursuing CPA licensure through the Alabama State Board of Public Accountancy, which oversees CPA examination and certification in the state. Relevant internship experience and proficiency in standard accounting software strengthens any application significantly.
Which companies hire staff accountants in Alabama?
Employers hiring staff accountants in Alabama right now include East Alabama Medical Center, YWCA, and Action, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Alabama's mix of large financial institutions, regional hospital systems, manufacturers, and state agencies means hiring stays active across both corporate and public-sector accounting teams throughout the year.
Which Alabama cities have the most staff accountant jobs?
Birmingham, Opelika, and Huntsville consistently post the most staff accountant openings in Alabama. Birmingham leads because it is the state's primary financial and healthcare hub, home to major banks and large hospital networks, while Huntsville's growth in aerospace and defense contracting drives strong corporate accounting demand, and Montgomery concentrates openings in state government agencies and insurance.
Are there remote staff accountant jobs in Alabama?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 9% of staff accountant openings tied to Alabama are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting that general ledger, financial reporting, and accounts payable work is well suited to remote delivery. The roles most likely to be fully remote are those focused on reconciliations, reporting, and close support rather than positions requiring daily coordination with on-site operations teams.
How can I get hired as a staff accountant in Alabama with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for accounting associate or junior accountant roles at Alabama's large healthcare systems, such as UAB Health System or Ascension St. Vincent's, which regularly bring on new graduates for structured rotational or department-based accounting positions. Regional banks like Regions Financial and Protective Life also hire entry-level accounting analysts. Completing an internship with a public accounting firm in Birmingham or Huntsville and holding or sitting for the CPA exam gives candidates a clear advantage over applicants without formal credentials.
Where can I find and apply to staff accountant jobs in Alabama?
You can find and apply to staff accountant jobs in Alabama on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring in the state right now. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your background and preferred location, and apply directly to whichever positions fit.
