Tax Associate Jobs in Connecticut: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a tax associate in Connecticut?
You become a tax associate in Connecticut by earning a bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field and pursuing CPA licensure through the Connecticut State Board of Accountancy, which requires passing all four sections of the Uniform CPA Exam and meeting Connecticut's education and experience requirements. Most employers hire candidates who are actively working toward the CPA, so starting the exam process early strengthens your candidacy considerably.
How much do tax associates make in Connecticut?
Tax associates in Connecticut earn a median of about $41,130 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $35,740 for the lowest 10% to over $81,750 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire tax associates in Connecticut?
Companies currently hiring tax associates in Connecticut include H&R Block, CohnReznick, and AQR, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Connecticut's concentration of insurance carriers, financial services firms, and Big Four accounting offices in Stamford and Hartford means demand for tax associates tends to remain consistent year-round.
Which Connecticut cities have the most tax associate jobs?
Hartford, Stamford, and Waterford have the most tax associate openings in Connecticut. Stamford's dense cluster of financial services headquarters and multinational corporate offices drives the highest volume, while Hartford's insurance industry and New Haven's mix of professional services firms and university-affiliated organizations sustain openings in those metros as well.
Are there remote tax associate jobs in Connecticut?
Yes, and more than many comparable roles, since tax work is largely document- and software-driven and does not require a physical client presence. About 60% of tax associate openings tied to Connecticut are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how readily the role translates to distributed work. Compliance and return-preparation work tends to be the most remote-accessible, while client-facing advisory roles more often require some in-office time.
How can I get hired as a tax associate in Connecticut with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to public accounting internship and new-graduate associate programs at firms with Connecticut offices, including regional practices based in Hartford and Stamford that recruit directly from the University of Connecticut, Quinnipiac University, and Sacred Heart University. Large financial services employers such as insurance carriers also run tax rotational or staff associate programs open to recent graduates. Sitting for the first section of the CPA exam before you apply signals seriousness and gives you a meaningful edge over candidates who have not started.
Where can I find and apply to tax associate jobs in Connecticut?
You can find and apply to tax associate jobs in Connecticut on Migrate Mate, which lists current Connecticut openings updated in real time. Search the roles that match your experience level and specialization, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
