Job Summary

Provide supervision of Lab for a designated shift/area, to include personnel, procedure, instrumentation, compliance with regulatory agencies under the direction of the Laboratory Director/Manager. Expected to perform technical duties and to perform phlebotomy duties as needed. May serve as a delegating technologist to a competent MLT on the same shift and be responsible for his/her work.

Qualifications

• 2 year / Associate Degree in Medical Technology (Required)
• 4 year / Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology (Preferred)

Work Experience

• 1-year Clinical Laboratory Experience (Required)

Licenses and Certifications

Required Certifications/Licensures: Certification by ASCP, AMT, AAB, or other agency approved by the hiring department (Required)

Essential Functions

SHIFT/AREA SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide assistance to the laboratory department.
• Provide supervision and support to employees on his/her shift/area.
• Assure that tests are conducted within established standards on shift worked.
• Produce accurate results according to established procedures.
• Correlate and interpret data.
• Monitor the quality assurance system, to include quality control of services, and perform required staff competency assessments as needed.
• Document work performed and recognize abnormal and critical results.
• Perform all duties of an MLT/MT on the shift, as qualified.
• Handle all issues and problems that arise on shift and convey the outcome to the department supervisor or director.

DOCUMENTATION:

• Document and submit required information and data in a timely fashion.
• Clearly and accurately document designated processes, policies, products, service offerings, etc.
• Ensure that documentation is tailored to expected readers/users.
• Use correct terminology.
• Conform to required style and format.

TECHNOLOGY AND EQUIPMENT USE:

• Demonstrate technical skill in using equipment appropriate for role.
• Understand equipment operation.
• Maintain equipment in working order.
• Troubleshoot equipment problems.
• Use technology to increase productivity.
• Adapt to new technology.

• Demonstrate competency at all levels in providing care to all patients based on age, sex, weight, and demonstrated needs.
• For non-clinical areas, attend training and demonstrate usage of age-specific customer service skills.
• Wear protective clothing and equipment as appropriate.
