Technical Sales Representative Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a technical sales representative in Texas?
Most Texas employers hire technical sales representatives with a bachelor's degree in engineering, a technical discipline, or business, combined with relevant industry knowledge. Texas does not require a state-issued license specifically for technical sales, so the path runs through education, product training, and industry experience. Starting in applications engineering, field support, or inside sales at Texas-based manufacturers or technology firms is the most common entry route before moving into a full quota-carrying role.
How much do technical sales representatives make in Texas?
Technical sales representatives in Texas earn a median of about $130,610 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $78,730 for the lowest 10% to over $201,850 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire technical sales representatives in Texas?
Employers hiring technical sales representatives in Texas right now include Integrated Power Services, Engineered Air, and EnerSys, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of energy, semiconductor, and industrial automation companies means demand is steady across both large multinationals with Texas headquarters and regional distributors serving the Gulf Coast and Permian Basin.
Which Texas cities have the most technical sales representative jobs?
Houston, Dallas, and Dallas-Fort Worth are the cities with the most technical sales representative openings in Texas. Houston drives volume through its energy technology and petrochemical equipment sectors, Dallas attracts roles tied to enterprise software and logistics technology firms headquartered in the Metroplex, and Austin's growing semiconductor and SaaS industry base has steadily added technical sales headcount over the past several years.
Are there remote technical sales representative jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based roles, since technical sales often requires on-site product demonstrations and client visits. About 11% of technical sales representative openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting employers who allow administrative and virtual selling tasks from home. The portions of the role most suited to remote work are inside sales, renewal account management, and software or SaaS product lines that do not require physical demonstrations.
How can I get hired as a technical sales representative in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an inside sales or sales development representative role at a Texas-based industrial distributor or technology company, where you learn the product line before moving to field sales. Large Texas employers like ExxonMobil's chemical division, Texas Instruments, and regional automation distributors run rotational or associate programs that bring in candidates from engineering or business programs at Texas universities. A relevant technical degree, a SPIN Selling or Challenger Sale certification, or prior internship experience in applications engineering all strengthen a resume without requiring a quota-carrying background.
Where can I find and apply to technical sales representative jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to technical sales representative jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings updated regularly. Find roles that fit your experience and target industry and apply directly to the employers posting them. No profile creation is required to search and apply.
