Which government employers in Arkansas sponsor H-1B visas?
Federal agencies with a significant presence in Arkansas, including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (headquartered in Little Rock), the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, have filed H-1B petitions in recent years. University of Arkansas System campuses are cap-exempt H-1B sponsors, meaning they can file outside the annual lottery for qualifying research and academic roles.
Which cities in Arkansas have the most government H-1B sponsorship jobs?
Little Rock holds the largest concentration, as it is the state capital and home to the majority of state agencies and federal field offices. Fayetteville and Springdale follow, driven by University of Arkansas research positions and Northwest Arkansas regional government operations. Fort Smith also sees activity tied to federal facilities and Veterans Affairs healthcare, making it a secondary market worth monitoring.
What types of government roles in Arkansas typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Roles that consistently meet H-1B specialty occupation requirements include IT systems analysts, civil and environmental engineers, public health researchers, biostatisticians, urban planners, and policy analysts. Positions that require a specific bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field are the clearest candidates. General administrative or clerical government roles typically do not meet the specialty occupation threshold.
How do I find government H-1B sponsorship jobs in Arkansas?
Migrate Mate aggregates government and public sector jobs in Arkansas that are open to H-1B visa sponsorship, filtering out roles where sponsorship is not available. Searching by state and filtering for government sector on Migrate Mate lets you focus specifically on Arkansas agencies and institutions that have an active history of sponsoring H-1B workers, saving significant time compared to reviewing individual agency postings.
Are there any Arkansas-specific considerations for H-1B sponsorship in government roles?
Arkansas state government agencies, like most state-level employers, rarely sponsor H-1B visas for standard civil service positions due to budget constraints and procurement rules. Federal agencies and cap-exempt institutions such as public universities offer more consistent sponsorship pathways. Applicants should verify whether a specific agency has cap-exempt status, as this determines whether the annual H-1B lottery applies to their petition.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B government jobs in Arkansas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
