Which science and research companies sponsor H-1B visas in Florida?
Florida has a strong base of H-1B visa sponsoring employers in science and research. Moffitt Cancer Center and AdventHealth in Tampa sponsor researchers and clinical scientists. Scripps Research Institute in Jupiter, the University of Florida in Gainesville, and University of Miami sponsor scientists across biomedical fields. Aerospace and defense contractors along the Space Coast, including Lockheed Martin and Boeing subsidiaries, also file H-1B petitions for research engineers and scientists.
Which cities in Florida have the most science and research H-1B sponsorship jobs?
Tampa and the surrounding Bay Area lead in life sciences and medical research sponsorship, anchored by Moffitt Cancer Center and USF Health. The Space Coast corridor, from Titusville to Melbourne, concentrates aerospace and applied science roles. Gainesville supports strong biomedical and agricultural research activity through the University of Florida. Miami and Boca Raton host pharmaceutical and marine science employers, while Orlando has growing simulation and research technology companies.
What types of science and research roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship in Florida?
Roles that commonly qualify require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific scientific discipline. These include research scientists, biomedical engineers, marine biologists, aerospace engineers, clinical researchers, chemists, environmental scientists, and data scientists working in research contexts. The position must meet the specialty occupation standard, meaning the degree must be directly relevant to the role's core duties, not just a general requirement.
How do I find science and research H-1B sponsorship jobs in Florida?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers searching for H-1B sponsorship roles. You can filter by state and industry to browse verified science and research positions in Florida from employers with a history of H-1B filings. This saves significant time compared to manually researching which employers sponsor, since Migrate Mate surfaces that sponsorship context directly alongside job listings.
Are there any Florida-specific considerations for H-1B sponsorship in science and research?
Florida's research ecosystem is shaped by its public university system, federal research contracts, and proximity to Latin American biotech markets, which influences the types of roles available and the international hiring appetite of employers. Research positions at state universities like University of Florida or Florida State University are cap-exempt H-1B employers, meaning they can file H-1B petitions outside the annual lottery, which is a meaningful advantage for applicants in academic or affiliated research settings.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B science & research jobs in Florida?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
