Which biotech & pharma companies sponsor visas in Massachusetts?
Major Massachusetts biotech sponsors include Moderna, Biogen, Genzyme (Sanofi), Takeda, Novartis, and Vertex Pharmaceuticals. Cambridge-based companies like Foundation Medicine, Alnylam, and Blueprint Medicines also actively sponsor visas. These companies typically file H-1B petitions for research scientists, biostatisticians, regulatory affairs specialists, and clinical data managers with advanced degrees in life sciences.
How to find biotech & pharma visa sponsorship jobs in Massachusetts?
Use Migrate Mate to search Massachusetts biotech positions that offer visa sponsorship. Filter by location (Boston, Cambridge, Worcester) and role type (research scientist, clinical researcher, regulatory affairs). Massachusetts biotech companies often recruit from local universities like Harvard, MIT, and Northeastern, so targeting roles that mention collaboration with academic institutions can increase your chances of finding sponsorship opportunities.
What visa types are most common for biotech & pharma roles in Massachusetts?
H-1B visas dominate Massachusetts biotech sponsorship, particularly for PhD-level research scientists and regulatory professionals. O-1 visas are common for distinguished researchers with publications and patents. F-1 to H-1B transitions are frequent given the state's strong university pipeline. Some companies also sponsor EB-2 green cards for experienced professionals in drug development and clinical research positions.
Which Massachusetts cities have the most biotech & pharma sponsorship opportunities?
Cambridge leads with the highest concentration of biotech sponsors, housing Moderna, Biogen, and dozens of smaller companies along the Kendall Square corridor. Boston follows closely with major pharmaceutical offices and research hospitals. Worcester has emerging opportunities with companies like AbbVie, while Lexington and Waltham host mid-sized biotech firms that frequently sponsor international talent.
Are prevailing wages higher for biotech roles in Massachusetts compared to other states?
Yes, Massachusetts biotech roles typically command higher prevailing wages due to the state's concentration of premium employers and high cost of living. Research scientist positions often exceed national averages by 15-25%. The competitive market for PhD-level talent drives wages up, making it easier for employers to justify visa sponsorship costs for qualified international candidates.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored biotech & pharma jobs in Massachusetts?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
