Which investment management companies sponsor H-1B visas in New York?
New York's largest investment management firms are among the most active H-1B visa sponsors in the country. BlackRock, Goldman Sachs Asset Management, JPMorgan Asset Management, Morgan Stanley Investment Management, and Citadel regularly appear in Department of Labor LCA disclosure data for investment management roles. Boutique hedge funds and private equity firms in Midtown also file H-1B petitions, though less frequently than the major asset managers.
What types of investment management roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Roles that qualify must meet the H-1B specialty occupation standard, meaning they require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. In investment management, this commonly includes quantitative analysts, portfolio analysts, risk managers, financial engineers, and investment research associates. Roles requiring advanced degrees in finance, economics, mathematics, or computer science tend to have the clearest eligibility. General relationship management or sales roles are less likely to qualify.
How do I find investment management H-1B sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. You can filter by visa type, industry, and state to surface investment management roles in New York where employers have a documented history of H-1B sponsorship. This saves significant time compared to manually reviewing job postings that rarely disclose sponsorship availability upfront. Migrate Mate's job board focuses exclusively on international candidates who need work visa support.
Which cities in New York have the most investment management H-1B sponsorship jobs?
New York City, specifically Midtown Manhattan and the Financial District, accounts for the overwhelming majority of investment management H-1B positions in the state. Firms are heavily concentrated around Sixth Avenue, Park Avenue, and the Hudson Yards corridor. Stamford, Connecticut is a common alternative for candidates willing to commute, but within New York state, the concentration outside of Manhattan is minimal for this industry.
Are there any New York-specific considerations for H-1B sponsorship in investment management?
New York investment management firms, particularly registered investment advisers and broker-dealers, operate under SEC and FINRA oversight, which can add compliance layers to onboarding for international hires. Some roles may require FINRA licenses such as the Series 7 or Series 63, which H-1B holders can sit for but must typically obtain after starting employment. The density of firms in New York also means H-1B transfer opportunities are more available here than in most other states.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B investment management jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
