Which biotech and pharma companies sponsor H-1B visas in New York?
Several large employers with significant New York operations have consistent H-1B visa filing histories, including Pfizer, Bristol Myers Squibb, Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Pfizer, and Takeda. Contract research organizations and specialty biotech firms in the NYC metro and Hudson Valley also file H-1B petitions regularly. Sponsorship frequency varies by company size, hiring cycle, and the specific role being filled.
Which cities in New York have the most biotech and pharma H-1B sponsorship jobs?
New York City, particularly Manhattan and Brooklyn, has the highest concentration of biotech and pharma H-1B roles, driven by research institutes and corporate headquarters. Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow in Westchester County are notable for Regeneron's large campus. The Buffalo and Albany areas have smaller but growing biotech presences tied to academic medical centers and state-funded life sciences initiatives.
What types of biotech and pharma roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship in New York?
Roles that require a specific bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field are the foundation of H-1B eligibility. In biotech and pharma, this commonly includes research scientists, bioinformaticians, clinical data managers, regulatory affairs specialists, pharmaceutical chemists, and biostatisticians. Generalist roles without a clear degree-field requirement are less likely to qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS standards.
How do I find biotech and pharma H-1B sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters biotech and pharma roles in New York by H-1B sponsorship history, so you are not sorting through listings from employers unlikely to sponsor. Searching by industry and location on Migrate Mate surfaces companies with documented H-1B filing patterns, which is a more reliable signal of actual sponsorship willingness than a generic job board listing.
Are there any New York-specific considerations for H-1B sponsorship in biotech and pharma?
New York's high prevailing wage levels, set by the Department of Labor for the NYC and Hudson Valley metro areas, affect the Labor Condition Application that employers must file before sponsoring an H-1B. Employers must attest that the offered position meets the applicable wage tier for the occupation and location. New York also has a large density of academic medical centers and research hospitals that qualify as cap-exempt H-1B employers, which is a distinct pathway worth understanding separately.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B biotech & pharma jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
