Which education employers in Texas are known to sponsor Green Card visas?
Large public school districts including Houston ISD, Dallas ISD, and San Antonio ISD have sponsored Green Cards for teachers and administrators, often through PERM labor certification. Major research universities such as UT Austin, Texas A&M, and University of Houston sponsor Green Cards for faculty and research staff. Private K-12 networks and education technology companies headquartered in Texas also file PERM applications for specialized roles.
Which Texas cities have the most education Green Card sponsorship jobs?
Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, Austin, and San Antonio generate the highest volume of education Green Card sponsorship activity in Texas. Houston and DFW benefit from large district size and dense university networks. Austin's growth as an education technology hub adds demand for instructional designers and curriculum specialists. Smaller markets like Lubbock and El Paso also sponsor through regional universities and independent school districts.
What types of education roles typically qualify for Green Card sponsorship in Texas?
Roles that consistently qualify include K-12 classroom teachers in shortage subjects such as bilingual education, special education, math, and science, as well as university faculty, researchers, academic advisors, and curriculum developers. Administrative roles requiring specialized graduate-level credentials also qualify. PERM labor certification is the standard pathway, requiring the employer to document that no qualified U.S. worker is available for the position.
How do I find education Green Card sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate aggregates education jobs in Texas where employers have a documented history of Green Card sponsorship, letting you filter specifically by visa type and state. This is more targeted than broad job searches because it surfaces employers who have filed PERM applications before, which is a strong indicator of willingness to sponsor again. Search education roles by Texas city or district directly on Migrate Mate to see verified sponsoring employers.
Are there any Texas-specific considerations for Green Card sponsorship in education?
Texas has no state income tax, which affects prevailing wage comparisons during PERM labor certification since DOL benchmarks wages against local market rates. The state's high proportion of English Language Learner students means bilingual and ESL-certified educators face particularly strong employer demand. Texas Education Agency certification requirements must also be met before an employer can proceed with sponsorship for most K-12 teaching roles.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card education jobs in Texas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
