Which government employers in Texas sponsor Green Cards?
Federal agencies and large federal contractors are the most consistent Green Card sponsors in Texas. This includes defense contractors operating near Fort Worth and San Antonio, civilian federal agencies in Austin and Dallas, and energy-sector regulatory bodies based in Houston. Research universities with federal funding ties, such as Texas A&M and UT Austin, also sponsor permanent residency for research and academic positions on a regular basis.
Which Texas cities have the most government Green Card sponsorship jobs?
Dallas-Fort Worth leads due to its dense concentration of federal contractors and defense-related agencies. Austin follows closely, driven by federal civilian offices and state government bodies with specialized hiring needs. Houston is a strong third, particularly for roles connected to energy regulation and federal health agencies. San Antonio also has a notable share of government Green Card positions tied to military and defense installations.
What types of government roles in Texas typically qualify for Green Card sponsorship?
Roles requiring specialized technical or scientific expertise are the most commonly sponsored. This includes software engineers, cybersecurity analysts, data scientists, environmental scientists, and engineers working on federally funded infrastructure or defense projects. Policy analysts and public health professionals with advanced degrees also appear frequently among sponsored positions. Roles that require U.S. citizenship for security clearance eligibility are generally not sponsorship-eligible.
How do I find government Green Card sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate aggregates government Green Card sponsorship jobs across Texas in one place, filtering out roles that don't sponsor so you're not wasting time on dead ends. You can search by city, filter by agency type or contractor, and focus specifically on permanent residency-sponsored positions. For government roles in Texas, filtering by Dallas-Fort Worth, Austin, and Houston will return the highest volume of active listings.
Are there any Texas-specific considerations for Green Card sponsorship in the government sector?
Texas has no state income tax, which affects compensation structures at some government contractors, but does not change federal Green Card sponsorship processes. One important consideration is that many Texas government and defense roles require or eventually lead to security clearance eligibility, which is only available to U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents. Applicants currently on nonimmigrant visas should confirm with the employer whether their current status is compatible with the intended Green Card pathway before applying.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card government jobs in Texas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
