What You Will Do
- Customer Invoice Management: Oversee the preparation, review, and timely delivery of customer invoices, ensuring invoices are accurate and consistent with contractual terms before they are issued. Maintain and improve invoice templates and billing workflows as needed, including billing rates, payment terms, invoice requirements, and other financial provisions. Ensure those terms are accurately reflected in billing and accounting processes.
- Accounts Receivable: Monitor and manage open accounts receivable, review aging reports, coordinate collection efforts, investigate discrepancies, and resolve customer billing issues.
- Accounting Close: Manage month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accounting records are accurate, complete, appropriately reviewed, and closed on time.
- Financial Reporting & Analysis: Prepare and review financial statements, account reconciliations, general ledger activity, supporting schedules, and other financial reporting. Analyze accounting activity to identify discrepancies, trends, and areas requiring additional review.
- Process Development & Internal Controls: Develop, document, implement, and continuously improve accounting processes and internal controls that support accuracy, efficiency, scalability, and company growth.
- Annual Filings & Compliance: Manage applicable annual business filings, including 1099s, annual reports, franchise and excise taxes, and other required filings.
- Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop the Staff Accountant by establishing clear expectations, reviewing work, providing coaching and growth conversations, and creating an environment that balances autonomy with accountability.
- Cross-Functional Partnership: Work closely with senior leadership and other departments to understand business needs, resolve accounting and billing issues, improve processes, and support informed business decisions.
What You Need
- 3–5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, general ledger accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations, and accounting close processes.
- Demonstrated experience reviewing and analyzing accounting work, not solely processing transactions.
- Experience reviewing customer contracts and interpreting billing rates, payment terms, amendments, and other financial provisions.
