Acquisition Specialist Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a acquisition specialist in New York?
Most acquisition specialist roles in New York require a bachelor's degree in business, public administration, or a closely related field. No single state-issued license is required for the private sector, but candidates pursuing government contracting roles often obtain credentials such as the Certified Federal Contracts Manager through the National Contract Management Association. New York State agency positions may require civil service eligibility established through the New York State Department of Civil Service examination process.
Which companies hire acquisition specialists in New York?
Employers hiring acquisition specialists in New York right now include State Farm, Always Compassionate Health, and Columbia University, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's concentration of defense contractors, state agencies, and major financial institutions means demand is distributed across both the private sector and public sector throughout the state.
Which New York cities have the most acquisition specialist jobs?
New York, Buffalo, and Melville have the most acquisition specialist openings in New York. New York City leads because of its density of financial services firms, real estate companies, and federal contractor offices, while Albany generates consistent demand from New York State government agencies, and Buffalo's growth in advanced manufacturing and healthcare has expanded local procurement teams.
Are there remote acquisition specialist jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than many comparable roles, since acquisition work is largely desk-based and document-driven. About 21% of acquisition specialist openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the role's compatibility with distributed work. Contract review, vendor negotiation, and procurement analysis are the functions most commonly performed fully remote.
How can I get hired as a acquisition specialist in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a procurement or contracts coordinator role, which many New York State agencies and large institutions post specifically for candidates without prior acquisition experience. The New York State Office of General Services and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority both run associate-level procurement programs. A degree in business or public administration, combined with familiarity with New York State procurement rules, gives candidates a meaningful edge over those without that background.
