Audit Manager Jobs in Virginia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a audit manager in Virginia?
The standard path in Virginia runs through the Virginia Board of Accountancy, which issues the CPA license required or strongly preferred by most employers. Candidates typically complete a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, pass all four sections of the CPA exam, satisfy Virginia's experience requirement under a licensed CPA, and then build several years in public accounting or internal audit before stepping into a management role.
How much do audit managers make in Virginia?
Audit managers in Virginia earn a median of about $93,290 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $60,000 for the lowest 10% to over $156,730 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire audit managers in Virginia?
Employers hiring audit managers in Virginia right now include Sikich, Capital One, and Keiter, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Virginia's concentration of federal contractors and major financial institutions means demand stays consistent across both the private sector and government-adjacent organizations throughout the year.
Which Virginia cities have the most audit manager jobs?
McLean, Alexandria, and Glen Allen account for the most audit manager openings in Virginia. Northern Virginia leads because of its dense cluster of federal contractors and financial services firms, Richmond draws on its role as a regional banking and insurance hub, and Hampton Roads supports steady demand through defense contractors and large public sector employers anchored in that corridor.
Are there remote audit manager jobs in Virginia?
Yes, and more than many comparable management roles, since audit managers at the planning, reporting, and team oversight level can handle significant portions of their work off-site. About 100% of audit manager openings tied to Virginia are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, though roles requiring fieldwork, government facility access, or security clearances tend to remain on-site. IT audit and internal audit positions carry the highest share of flexible arrangements.
How can I get hired as a audit manager in Virginia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is joining a public accounting firm or a large Virginia employer's internal audit rotational program as a staff or senior auditor first. Firms operating out of Northern Virginia and Richmond regularly hire into associate auditor roles that feed into management tracks. Passing the CPA exam early and gaining exposure to government contracting audits or IT audit work gives candidates a measurable edge in this market, and lateral moves from accounting analyst or compliance specialist roles within federal contractor environments are a recognized bridge.
Where can I find and apply to audit manager jobs in Virginia?
You can find and apply to audit manager jobs in Virginia on Migrate Mate, which lists current Virginia openings across industries and metro areas. Find the roles that fit your background and apply directly from each listing.
