BI Analyst Jobs in Pennsylvania: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a bi analyst in Pennsylvania?
There is no state-issued license required to work as a bi analyst in Pennsylvania. Employers typically look for a bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science, business analytics, or a related field. Building proficiency in SQL, Power BI, or Tableau alongside a portfolio of real reporting projects strengthens candidacy. Many Pennsylvania employers in healthcare and finance also value certifications such as the Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst Associate credential.
How much do BI analysts make in Pennsylvania?
BI analysts in Pennsylvania earn a median of about $106,850 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $63,340 for the lowest 10% to over $162,290 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire bi analysts in Pennsylvania?
Employers hiring bi analysts in Pennsylvania right now include Horizon Farm Credit, DICK'S Sporting Goods, and Lehigh Valley Health Network, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Pennsylvania's concentration of large health systems, insurance carriers, and financial institutions means BI analyst openings here tend to cluster around organizations managing complex, high-volume datasets.
Which Pennsylvania cities have the most bi analyst jobs?
Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Hazleton have the most bi analyst openings in Pennsylvania. Philadelphia dominates due to its dense cluster of financial services firms, healthcare systems, and corporate headquarters, while Pittsburgh's strength in healthcare technology and UPMC's scale drive consistent demand there, and Harrisburg reflects state government and insurance sector hiring.
Are there remote bi analyst jobs in Pennsylvania?
Yes, and more than most fields. The fully remote share tends to be highest for roles focused on self-service reporting and analytics rather than embedded team work requiring on-site collaboration.
How can I get hired as a bi analyst in Pennsylvania with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through an analyst associate or junior reporting analyst role, which large Pennsylvania employers like UPMC, Highmark Health, and Comcast post regularly for candidates without prior BI experience. Building a portfolio of SQL queries and Tableau or Power BI dashboards using public datasets demonstrates practical skill before formal experience exists. Lateral moves from roles in operations, financial analysis, or data entry at these same organizations are a common internal pipeline into BI analyst positions.
