Business Development Jobs in Rhode Island: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a business development in Rhode Island?
Most business development roles in Rhode Island require a bachelor's degree in business administration, marketing, or a related field, and Rhode Island does not impose a state-issued license specific to the role. Employers in financial services may expect candidates to hold FINRA licenses such as the Series 6 or Series 63, which are obtained through FINRA-administered exams. Building a record of quota achievement, client management, or partnership development in one of Rhode Island's core sectors greatly strengthens a candidacy.
Which companies hire business developments in Rhode Island?
Companies currently hiring business developments in Rhode Island include Allied Universal, Ryder System, and ECAM, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Rhode Island's concentration of financial services firms, defense contractors, and large healthcare systems makes it a particularly active market for candidates with industry-specific relationship-building experience.
Which Rhode Island cities have the most business development jobs?
Providence, Cranston, and Rhode Island have the most business development openings in Rhode Island. Providence dominates as the state's commercial and healthcare hub, home to major employers in financial services and professional services, while Warwick and Newport draw openings from defense technology firms and hospitality-adjacent industries that rely on active business development functions.
Are there remote business development jobs in Rhode Island?
Yes, and more than many fields, given that business development work is largely relationship-driven and phone or video-based. About 55% of business development openings tied to Rhode Island are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how often employers allow flexibility for roles that don't require daily on-site presence. Fully remote options tend to cluster in enterprise software sales and technology partnerships rather than in locally-rooted sectors like healthcare or financial services.
How can I get hired as a business development in Rhode Island with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a sales development representative or account coordinator role at one of Rhode Island's larger employers in financial services, healthcare, or technology services, where structured onboarding programs exist for candidates without direct business development experience. Lifespan and Care New England periodically hire business development associates with little prior experience, prioritizing candidates who have completed internships or sales rotations. Earning a HubSpot Sales certification or a FINRA Series 63 license before applying demonstrates readiness and distinguishes entry-level candidates in Rhode Island's competitive market.
Where can I find and apply to business development jobs in Rhode Island?
You can find and apply to business development jobs in Rhode Island on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the state. Search the listings to find roles that fit your background and apply directly to the ones that match your experience level and target industry.
