Arcadis is looking for an Area Manager and Business Growth Leader based in coastal North Carolina or South Carolina. This is a key leadership role in Arcadis’ business operations and will be responsible for leading strategy implementation to drive organic growth across our integrated water business.
This is a bold opportunity for a driven, self-motivated water professional to take their career to the next level, join one of the best-qualified full-service engineering consulting firms in the country, and help shape Arcadis’ mounting impact across North Carolina, South Carolina and beyond. The successful candidate will utilize their knowledge and expertise of the municipal water sector (water, wastewater and/or stormwater) along with their proven reputation in North Carolina or South Carolina for excellence in client management and business development to win and execute a growing portfolio of industry-leading projects.

Leading, developing, and coaching a high-performing team, negotiating critical issues with clients, potential teaming partners, and subconsultants, overseeing projects in the planning, design, and construction of various water infrastructure facilities, and providing technical assistance on design-build opportunities with the support of the national design-build team will also be key responsibilities. Frame your credentials around client-facing revenue
Arcadis values BD Managers who can demonstrate pipeline ownership, not just relationship management. Before applying, document specific accounts you've grown, sectors you've penetrated, and proposal wins. Consulting firms weigh these outcomes heavily when assessing sponsorship ROI.
Target Arcadis practice areas with active pursuits
Arcadis organizes BD around infrastructure, water, environment, and places sectors. Aligning your background to a sector with active project pursuits, rather than applying broadly, signals you're already embedded in the client conversations that matter to their pipeline.
Clarify your visa category before the offer stage
TN status works immediately for Canadian and Mexican nationals in a professional services BD role if the position qualifies. For H-1B or H-1B1 candidates, timing relative to the April lottery window changes your start date. Know which category applies to you before Arcadis moves to offer.
Use Migrate Mate to identify open BD roles by location
Arcadis posts Business Development Manager openings across U.S. offices tied to regional project work. Use Migrate Mate to filter current openings by visa sponsorship eligibility, so you're targeting roles where sponsorship is already on the table rather than negotiating it mid-process.
Confirm specialty occupation standing for your specific role
USCIS scrutinizes H-1B petitions for BD roles in consulting because the degree-to-job connection must be direct and specific. A civil engineering or environmental science degree supporting a water sector BD role reads stronger than a general business degree. Position your application around the technical specialization, not just the sales function.
Understand PERM timing if you're pursuing permanent residence
If Arcadis offers an EB-2 or EB-3 pathway, the PERM labor certification process begins with DOL and typically takes over a year before an I-140 petition is filed. Negotiate a clear internal timeline for when the employer sponsorship process starts, not just whether it's available.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Arcadis sponsor H-1B visas for Business Development Managers?
Yes, Arcadis sponsors H-1B visas for Business Development Manager roles. Because BD positions in consulting must qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS standards, your application is strongest when your degree field aligns directly with the practice area you're supporting, such as environmental science, civil engineering, or urban planning, rather than a general management background.
Which visa types does Arcadis commonly use for Business Development Manager roles?
Arcadis sponsors H-1B and H-1B1 visas for most international BD hires, along with F-1 OPT and CPT for recent graduates entering the role. TN visas are available for Canadian and Mexican nationals where the position qualifies under USMCA. For longer-term employees, Arcadis also supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways through the PERM labor certification process.
What qualifications does Arcadis expect for Business Development Manager positions?
Arcadis typically looks for candidates with a bachelor's degree in a field related to the sector they'll be selling into, such as engineering, environmental science, architecture, or urban planning. Alongside the degree, demonstrated experience managing complex client relationships in infrastructure or design consulting, building proposals, and tracking pipeline using CRM tools is expected at the manager level.
How do I apply for Business Development Manager jobs at Arcadis?
You can browse current Business Development Manager openings at Arcadis on Migrate Mate, which filters listings by visa sponsorship eligibility so you can confirm sponsorship is available before applying. Arcadis roles are organized by practice area and region, so identifying which sector your background fits before submitting your application strengthens your candidacy from the start.
How do I manage timing between the H-1B lottery and an Arcadis offer?
If you're subject to the H-1B cap, USCIS conducts the lottery in March with an October 1 start date, so an offer made after March means waiting until the following fiscal year. Discussing timeline openly with Arcadis during the offer process lets both sides plan for a deferred start, which consulting firms with active pipelines often accommodate for strong candidates.
