Align your portfolio to Arcadis practice areas
Arcadis organizes Design Engineer hiring around specific disciplines, including water, mobility, and resilience. Tailor your portfolio and resume to one practice area rather than presenting as a generalist, since hiring managers are evaluating fit within a defined project pipeline.
Verify your degree supports a specialty occupation
H-1B eligibility for Design Engineer roles requires your degree field to directly relate to the job duties. Engineering degrees in civil, structural, mechanical, or environmental disciplines are straightforward. A business or unrelated technical degree will face scrutiny during USCIS adjudication.
Target roles explicitly listing visa sponsorship
Arcadis posts Design Engineer openings across multiple regions, but not every role is cleared for sponsorship. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Arcadis Design Engineer positions that are open to H-1B and OPT candidates, saving you from pursuing dead ends.
Secure licensure or EIT credentials before applying
Arcadis frequently expects Design Engineers to hold an Engineer-in-Training credential or be progressing toward PE licensure. Having your EIT certification from NCEES ready signals that you meet the specialty occupation threshold and removes a common sticking point in the offer stage.
Ask about LCA filing timing during the offer stage
Before your employer can file an H-1B petition, the DOL must certify a Labor Condition Application for your specific work location. Confirm with Arcadis's immigration team which office you'll be assigned to, since LCA certification is location-specific and affects your start date.
Plan your OPT-to-H-1B transition around the lottery
If you're on F-1 OPT, H-1B registration opens in March for an October 1 start. Arcadis can submit your registration, but selection isn't guaranteed. Know your OPT expiration date and whether your degree qualifies for the 24-month STEM extension to cover a gap year if needed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Arcadis sponsor H-1B visas for Design Engineers?
Yes, Arcadis sponsors H-1B visas for Design Engineers and has an established track record of doing so across multiple disciplines and office locations. The process involves Arcadis filing a Labor Condition Application with the DOL followed by an H-1B petition with USCIS. Support is handled through Arcadis's internal immigration team or an outside counsel they retain.
How do I apply for Design Engineer jobs at Arcadis?
You can apply directly through the Arcadis careers portal, where openings are listed by practice area and location. To find Design Engineer roles that are specifically open to sponsored candidates, browse Migrate Mate, which filters Arcadis postings by visa type so you don't waste time on roles that aren't cleared for international applicants.
Which visa types does Arcadis commonly use for Design Engineer roles?
Arcadis sponsors several visa categories for Design Engineers, including H-1B, H-1B1 visa for Chilean and Singaporean nationals, TN visa for Canadian and Mexican engineers, F-1 OPT and CPT for current students, J-1 visa for exchange visitors, and employment-based Green Cards through EB-2 or EB-3 PERM for longer-term hires. The right pathway depends on your nationality and career stage.
What qualifications does Arcadis expect for Design Engineer roles?
Arcadis typically requires a bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline such as civil, structural, mechanical, or environmental engineering. Many postings expect an EIT certification or active progress toward a Professional Engineer license. Design software proficiency, including AutoCAD or Revit, is commonly required, and project delivery experience within a consultancy environment strengthens your application significantly.
How do I understand the H-1B filing timeline for a Design Engineer offer at Arcadis?
H-1B petitions for a standard October 1 start require USCIS registration in March, followed by lottery selection in late March or early April. If selected, your employer files the full petition by June 30. Premium processing, which USCIS offers for an additional fee, can accelerate adjudication to roughly 15 business days and is worth discussing with Arcadis's immigration team if your OPT expires soon.
