Document Your Trade Certifications Before Applying
Groundworks construction roles often require verifiable proof of specialized skills like foundation systems or waterproofing. Gather OSHA cards, trade licenses, and any state-specific certifications before submitting applications so hiring managers can assess your credentials without delays.
Target Groundworks Locations With Active Openings
Groundworks operates service branches across multiple states, and sponsorship decisions often tie to branch-level hiring needs. Search for open Construction postings by region rather than applying at the national level, since local branch managers typically drive sponsorship approvals for field roles.
Understand the H-2B Seasonal Filing Calendar
H-2B visas operate under a congressionally set annual cap with two filing windows. Groundworks must submit DOL job orders and prevailing wage requests months before your intended start date, so engage early in the hiring process to avoid missing the applicable filing deadline for your target season.
Clarify Job Duration and Site Assignment Early
H-2B sponsorship requires the employer to demonstrate temporary or seasonal need to DOL. During interviews, ask directly whether the role is classified as a fixed-term or recurring seasonal position, since that distinction affects your work authorization period and any extension eligibility.
Use Migrate Mate to Find Verified Construction Openings
Not all Groundworks postings list sponsorship details upfront. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Groundworks Construction roles that include visa sponsorship, so you spend time only on positions where the company has an established pathway for international hires.
Confirm E-Verify Enrollment Before Accepting an Offer
Federal contractors and companies receiving government funding must run new hires through E-Verify. Before you accept a construction offer from Groundworks, confirm the branch you're joining is E-Verify enrolled, as this is a required step in completing your work authorization once your visa is approved.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Groundworks sponsor H-1B visas for Construction roles?
Groundworks does not typically sponsor H-1B visas for Construction roles. H-1B visas require a specialty occupation tied to a bachelor's degree in a specific field, which most hands-on construction positions do not meet. Groundworks' primary sponsorship pathway for Construction workers is the H-2B visa, which is designed for temporary non-agricultural labor in roles like foundation repair and waterproofing.
What visa types does Groundworks commonly use for Construction roles?
Groundworks uses the H-2B visa nonimmigrant visa to sponsor Construction workers. This visa covers temporary or seasonal labor needs and is appropriate for field roles in foundation systems, crawl space services, and structural repair. It requires employer-initiated petitions filed with DOL and USCIS, and work authorization is tied to the specific employer and job duration approved in the petition.
What qualifications does Groundworks expect for sponsored Construction positions?
Groundworks looks for candidates with practical experience in foundation repair, waterproofing, or related construction trades. Relevant certifications such as OSHA training, state contractor licenses, or equipment operation credentials strengthen your application. Physical capability for field work and a clean background check are standard requirements. Prior experience working within structured crew environments is a common expectation for sponsored hires at the branch level.
How do I apply for Construction jobs at Groundworks?
You can find Construction openings at Groundworks through their careers page or on Migrate Mate, which filters specifically for roles with active visa sponsorship. When applying, tailor your resume to highlight trade skills and any certifications relevant to structural or waterproofing work. Contact the branch recruiter directly after submitting to confirm whether sponsorship is available for that specific location and role.
How long does the Groundworks H-2B sponsorship process take?
The H-2B process typically takes several months from start to finish. Groundworks must first obtain a prevailing wage determination from DOL, file a job order, and complete a domestic recruitment period before submitting an H-2B petition to USCIS. USCIS processing alone can take weeks, and cap availability adds timing constraints. Engaging with Groundworks well ahead of your target start date gives the process enough runway to complete before you're needed on site.
