ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Software Engineer II on the Developer Platform Team, you will help improve the Scala, Bazel, and CI foundations that Iterable engineers use every day to build, test, and ship services. Your work will make the codebase easier to change, the build graph easier to reason about, and CI more reliable under real production-scale usage.
This is a hands-on engineering role for someone with a solid programming background who enjoys working close to the codebase, build system, and developer workflow. You will independently own moderate-complexity projects, contribute directly to the Bazel build platform, core Scala libraries shared by services, and partner with product engineering teams to turn recurring developer pain into durable platform improvements. You will also help shape how Iterable uses AI-assisted and agentic engineering practices to make complex development work faster, safer, and more repeatable.
- Improve the core developer workflow: Build and refine the systems engineers use to compile, test, package, and validate their changes with confidence.
- Contribute to shared engineering foundations: Work on common libraries, frameworks, build patterns, and service development practices that many teams rely on.
- Make CI faster and more reliable: Help improve the feedback loops that keep development moving while preserving quality and release confidence.
- Create leverage for product engineers: Turn recurring developer pain points into durable tools, documentation, automation, and platform improvements.
- Apply AI to real engineering problems: Use tools like Cursor, Claude, and agent-based workflows to accelerate complex platform work, automate repetitive tasks, and create safer developer experiences.
- Partner across engineering: Collaborate with service teams to understand their needs, support adoption, and make the paved path easier to use over time.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
We prioritize strong engineering fundamentals, practical systems thinking, and the ability to use modern AI tooling thoughtfully. You do not need to have used our exact stack, but you should be comfortable learning deeply, working in shared codebases, and building tools other engineers depend on.
Strong software engineering fundamentals in Scala, Java, Kotlin, or another production language; able to read, modify, test, and review service code in a large shared codebase.
- Experience with build systems, dependency management, CI, or test infrastructure; familiarity with Bazel, SBT, Maven, Gradle, GitHub Actions, or similar systems is valuable.
- Ability to debug complex build, test, and developer workflow failures and turn repeated issues into clear fixes, tooling, documentation, or automation.
- Product-minded approach to developer experience; you care about usability, feedback loops, adoption, and whether platform changes actually make engineers faster and more confident.
- Comfortable using AI tools such as Cursor, Claude, or similar systems for real engineering work, including codebase exploration, migration support, test generation, CI triage, and agent orchestration.
- Good judgment about AI-assisted automation: able to break complex tasks into plans, prompts, verification steps, and review loops with appropriate human oversight and safety guardrails.
- Clear communicator who can work with service teams, explain trade-offs, keep stakeholders informed, and make progress in ambiguous technical areas.
PERKS & BENEFITS:
- Competitive salaries, meaningful equity, & 401(k) plan
- Medical, dental, vision, & life insurance
- Balance Days (additional paid holidays)

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Software Engineer Jobs at Iterable
Align your stack to Iterable's engineering needs
Iterable builds cross-channel marketing infrastructure, so experience with distributed systems, event-driven architecture, or high-throughput data pipelines positions your application far more effectively than general software experience. Review their engineering blog before applying.
Confirm H-1B specialty occupation before interviewing
Software Engineer roles at Iterable fall under specialty occupation as defined by USCIS, but your specific degree field still matters. A computer science, software engineering, or directly related technical degree strengthens your petition and reduces the risk of a Request for Evidence.
Use Migrate Mate to surface open Software Engineer roles
Filtering for companies with a verified H-1B sponsorship history in Technology and Software saves significant time. Use Migrate Mate to browse Iterable's current Software Engineer openings and confirm which positions are actively sponsoring before investing in applications.
Start the LCA process well before your start date
Your employer files a Labor Condition Application with the DOL before USCIS can process your H-1B petition. LCA certification typically takes seven business days, but building in extra lead time protects your start date if DOL requests additional review.
Understand Iterable's SaaS product context in interviews
Iterable operates as a B2B SaaS platform, so interviewers assess whether you can build for scale and reliability. Demonstrating experience with multi-tenant systems or API-driven integrations signals the kind of engineering judgment they look for at this level.
Plan around the H-1B cap and October 1 start date
Cap-subject H-1B petitions must be filed in April for an October 1 start. If you're on OPT, verify your expiration date and determine whether you need a STEM OPT extension to bridge the gap between your current authorization and your H-1B effective date.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Iterable sponsor H-1B visas for Software Engineers?
Yes, Iterable sponsors H-1B visas for Software Engineer roles. The company operates in the Technology and Software industry, where H-1B sponsorship for specialized technical positions is standard practice. Software Engineer roles at Iterable meet USCIS specialty occupation requirements, which is a prerequisite for a successful H-1B petition. Confirming a role is actively sponsoring before you apply is the most important first step.
Which visa types does Iterable sponsor for Software Engineers?
Iterable sponsors both H-1B nonimmigrant visas and employment-based Green Card pathways, including EB-2 and EB-3 categories, for Software Engineers. H-1B is the most common initial sponsorship route. EB-2 typically applies to roles requiring advanced degrees or exceptional ability, while EB-3 covers professional positions. Both Green Card categories require PERM labor certification filed with the DOL before USCIS petition.
How do I apply for Software Engineer jobs at Iterable?
You can browse and apply for Software Engineer roles at Iterable directly through their careers page or through Migrate Mate, which surfaces Iterable's open positions alongside verified visa sponsorship information. When applying, tailor your resume to reflect experience relevant to Iterable's platform, such as distributed systems, data pipelines, or API development, since their engineering teams focus heavily on scalable infrastructure.
What qualifications does Iterable expect from Software Engineer candidates?
Iterable typically looks for Software Engineers with a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field. Beyond credentials, they expect hands-on experience with backend systems, cloud infrastructure, or growth engineering depending on the team. For visa purposes, your degree field must align with the role's specialty occupation classification under USCIS guidelines.
How does the H-1B sponsorship timeline work for a Software Engineer role at Iterable?
For cap-subject H-1B petitions, your employer registers you in the USCIS lottery in March, with an October 1 start date if selected. After lottery selection, Iterable's legal team files the full petition, typically with supporting documentation establishing the role as a specialty occupation. If you're currently on OPT, confirm whether your authorization covers the gap between now and October 1, and whether a STEM OPT extension applies to your situation.
