Align your credentials to Johnson Controls requirements
Construction Manager roles at Johnson Controls typically require a degree in construction management, mechanical engineering, or a related field. Confirm your foreign credential equivalency through a NACES-recognized evaluation service before applying, since specialty occupation status depends on it.
Target Johnson Controls facility and campus projects
Johnson Controls hires Construction Managers for large manufacturing and HVAC system installation projects. Search for postings that reference specific facility upgrades or capital programs, since those roles carry longer project timelines and stronger internal pressure to sponsor qualified candidates.
Use Migrate Mate to filter verified sponsorship roles
Sorting through which postings actually lead to sponsorship can waste weeks. Migrate Mate filters Johnson Controls Construction Manager listings by visa type, so you can focus your applications on roles where H-1B or TN sponsorship has been used for this function before.
Understand the TN pathway if you hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship
Construction Manager is not always a straightforward TN category, but if your role falls under Engineer or Management Consultant criteria, TN is faster than H-1B with no lottery. Clarify with your hiring contact which classification Johnson Controls would support before your offer is finalized.
Ask about sponsorship timing during the offer stage
Johnson Controls runs global infrastructure projects with defined start dates. Once you have an offer, confirm whether the team is filing for H-1B cap or change of status, and whether your anticipated project start aligns with USCIS processing windows, which currently run several months for standard processing.
Prepare a project portfolio that documents specialty occupation work
USCIS scrutinizes Construction Manager H-1B petitions by assessing whether the role genuinely requires a specialized degree. Organize past project documentation, contracts, and scope descriptions that demonstrate complex judgment calls rather than general supervision, since that distinction directly affects petition approval.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Johnson Controls sponsor H-1B visas for Construction Managers?
Yes, Johnson Controls sponsors H-1B visas for Construction Manager roles. The company files petitions across engineering and project management functions, and Construction Manager positions tied to large-scale facility or building systems projects are among those it has supported. Your petition will need to establish specialty occupation status, which means demonstrating the role requires a relevant bachelor's degree or higher as a standard minimum requirement.
How do I apply for Construction Manager jobs at Johnson Controls?
Apply through Johnson Controls' careers portal or use Migrate Mate to browse open Construction Manager listings filtered by visa sponsorship type. Tailor your application to highlight project scope, budget oversight, and technical systems experience relevant to building infrastructure or manufacturing facilities. Roles at Johnson Controls often specify regional assignments, so confirming location alignment before applying saves time in the process.
Which visa types does Johnson Controls commonly use for Construction Manager roles?
Johnson Controls sponsors H-1B visas for Construction Managers who require employer-based nonimmigrant status, along with F-1 OPT and CPT for recent graduates entering project roles. The company also uses TN visa for eligible Canadian and Mexican nationals and supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways for long-term employees. The appropriate visa type depends on your nationality, degree, and the specific role classification Johnson Controls applies internally.
What qualifications does Johnson Controls expect for a sponsored Construction Manager position?
Johnson Controls typically looks for a degree in construction management, civil or mechanical engineering, or a related technical field, combined with direct experience managing construction projects in commercial, industrial, or manufacturing environments. Proficiency with project scheduling software and familiarity with building systems such as HVAC or fire suppression is frequently listed. For H-1B sponsorship, the degree must directly relate to the specific role responsibilities, not just the general field.
How do I time my application given H-1B cap and processing timelines?
The H-1B cap lottery opens in March each year, with employment starting October 1 at the earliest. If you're on F-1 OPT when you apply at Johnson Controls, your OPT end date needs to bridge that window. Standard USCIS processing currently takes several months, but premium processing is available and brings a decision within a defined timeframe. Coordinating your offer acceptance and project start date around these windows is something to discuss directly with your Johnson Controls recruiter.
