Document Your Equipment Certifications Early
United Rentals expects Operations Technicians to demonstrate hands-on competency with heavy and aerial equipment. Gather manufacturer certifications, inspection records, and any OSHA safety credentials before applying so your technical qualifications are ready for an LCA filing.
Target Branch Locations With Active Openings
United Rentals operates hundreds of branches across the U.S., and Operations Technician demand varies by region. Focus your applications on branches with posted openings rather than cold-contacting HR, since sponsorship decisions typically follow a confirmed business need at a specific location.
Clarify Your Visa Category Before the Offer Stage
United Rentals sponsors multiple visa types for this role. Raise your visa situation during the offer conversation, not after accepting, so the recruiting team can route your file to the right process whether that is H-1B cap season, TN for Canadian or Mexican nationals, or an OPT extension.
Understand How TN Status Fits This Role
Canadian and Mexican nationals in technician or engineering-adjacent functions may qualify for TN status, which has no annual cap and no lottery. Confirm with the employer that your specific job duties align with an eligible TN occupation category before relying on this pathway.
Use Migrate Mate to Find Sponsoring Branches
Not every United Rentals location sponsors visas at the same rate. Use Migrate Mate to filter Operations Technician openings at United Rentals by sponsorship history, so you apply to the branches and hiring managers most likely to support an international candidate through the process.
Prepare for PERM If You're Targeting Permanent Residency
United Rentals has sponsored EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards for operational roles. If long-term residency is your goal, ask during the offer stage whether the company runs PERM labor certification for this position, since the DOL recruitment and prevailing wage process can take a year or more.

Find Operations Technician at United Rentals JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does United Rentals sponsor H-1B visas for Operations Technicians?
Yes, United Rentals has sponsored H-1B visas for Operations Technician roles. Because the H-1B requires a specialty occupation with a directly related bachelor's degree, your application will be strongest if your education and technical background align clearly with the specific duties in the job description. H-1B cap filings are subject to an annual lottery, so timing your offer around the April registration window matters.
How do I apply for Operations Technician jobs at United Rentals?
Applications go through United Rentals' careers portal, where you can search by location and job function. You can also browse open Operations Technician roles at United Rentals filtered by visa sponsorship history on Migrate Mate, which helps you identify which postings are most relevant for international candidates before you invest time in a full application.
Which visa types does United Rentals commonly use for Operations Technician roles?
United Rentals sponsors several visa categories for this function, including H-1B, TN, F-1 OPT and CPT, J-1, and employment-based Green Cards at the EB-2 and EB-3 levels. TN is often the fastest path for Canadian and Mexican nationals since it has no lottery. OPT and CPT are common entry points for candidates currently studying or recently graduated in a relevant technical field.
What qualifications does United Rentals expect for Operations Technician candidates?
United Rentals typically looks for demonstrated experience servicing, inspecting, or repairing heavy equipment, aerial lifts, or industrial machinery. Manufacturer certifications, OSHA safety training, and familiarity with preventive maintenance processes strengthen your profile. For visa sponsorship purposes, having formal credentials that map to your degree or technical training makes the employer's LCA and petition filing significantly more straightforward.
How do I navigate the timeline between a job offer and a visa filing at United Rentals?
The timeline depends heavily on which visa type applies to your situation. H-1B requires filing by April 1 for an October 1 start, so offers made outside that window may involve a gap. TN status can be obtained at a port of entry for eligible nationals with far less lead time. USCIS premium processing is available for H-1B petitions and shortens the adjudication window to around 15 business days, which United Rentals may use for time-sensitive hires.
