Role
Discovery is one of the most important product areas at Whatnot. It shapes how buyers find shows, sellers, products, and categories they love — and how sellers build durable businesses through better reach and stronger buyer connections. Our work sits at the center of a complex matching problem: helping the right buyers find the right content at the right moment, in ways that feel relevant, trustworthy, and exciting.
As Discovery evolves, we’re expanding beyond the feed itself into adjacent surfaces that help buyers come back more often and engage more deeply. That includes notifications that extend discovery out of the app, and ad experiences that help sellers grow while still feeling useful and native to buyers.
We’re looking for a Senior Product Designer to join our Buyer Discovery pod at Whatnot. You’ll help design buyer-facing experiences focused on Discovery, with a particular emphasis on Ads and Notifications.
In this role, you’ll work on experiences that help buyers discover relevant sellers, shows, products, and categories — both in product and through re-engagement surfaces like push notifications. You’ll also help shape ad experiences that feel relevant, well-integrated, and additive rather than disruptive. This is a great role for a designer who is excited by fast-moving consumer product work, strong cross-functional collaboration, and the opportunity to grow quickly through high-impact projects.
You will:
- Design thoughtful, intuitive user experiences across buyer discovery surfaces on mobile and web
- Contribute to the Messaging Platform that bring buyers back at the right moment with relevant, engaging content
- Help shape Ad Experiences within discovery surfaces in ways that balance buyer relevance, seller value, and overall ecosystem health
- Create flows, mocks, prototypes, and polished UI that clearly communicate design intent
- Partner closely with product, engineering, data, and design peers to explore ideas, test hypotheses, and improve the user experience
- Participate in critiques and feedback loops, and iterate quickly based on learnings
- Sweat the details while keeping sight of the broader user and business goals
You'll report to a Design leader and will have the option to either work from one of our office hubs (LA, SF, NY, or SEA) or remote (U.S. only).

Frame your PM credentials around live commerce
Whatnot's core business is live-stream retail, so position your resume around marketplace operations, seller ecosystem management, or real-time platform scaling. Generic project management experience reads flat. Specific examples of coordinating cross-functional teams under tight launch timelines read as relevant.
Verify your visa type against Whatnot's sponsored categories
Whatnot sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, J-1, and EB-2/EB-3 pathways. Confirm your current status and target category early. If you're on OPT, calculate your end date before applying so you can flag cap-gap coverage or STEM extension eligibility in your timeline.
Target open roles strategically across PM specializations
Whatnot posts Project Manager roles across product, operations, and growth functions. Use Migrate Mate to filter open positions by visa type compatibility and identify which PM specializations are actively hiring, so you're not applying blind to roles that won't support your status.
Prepare specialty occupation documentation before the offer
For H-1B and E-3 sponsorship, USCIS requires the role to qualify as a specialty occupation. Gather transcripts, degree equivalency evaluations if your credential is non-U.S., and any certifications like PMP before you reach the offer stage. Delays in documentation can push your start date past your status window.
Ask about the LCA filing process during final-round interviews
Your employer must file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL before USCIS can adjudicate your H-1B or E-3 petition. Asking about this timeline in final rounds signals preparation and helps you understand whether your start date is realistic given current DOL processing windows.
Account for retail seasonality in your application timing
Whatnot's live commerce platform intensifies around major retail events. Hiring for PM roles tends to accelerate ahead of these cycles. Applying when Whatnot is building capacity for peak periods positions you as solving an immediate operational need, which can speed up offer decisions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Whatnot sponsor H-1B visas for Project Managers?
Yes, Whatnot sponsors H-1B visas for Project Manager roles. To qualify, the position must meet USCIS's specialty occupation standard, requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field directly related to the job. Project Management, Business Administration, Computer Science, or a related discipline typically satisfies this. Your employer files the petition with USCIS, and you'll need certified LCA documentation from the DOL before that process can begin.
Which visa types does Whatnot commonly sponsor for Project Manager roles?
Whatnot supports a wide range of visa categories for Project Managers, including H-1B, E-3 visa for Australian citizens, TN visa for Canadian and Mexican nationals under USMCA, F-1 OPT and CPT for current students, J-1 visa for exchange visitors, and EB-2/EB-3 for those pursuing permanent residence. The right category depends on your nationality, current status, and how far along you are in your immigration journey.
What qualifications and experience does Whatnot expect for Project Manager roles?
Whatnot typically looks for candidates with experience managing cross-functional projects in fast-moving technology or marketplace environments. Familiarity with agile methodologies, product launch cycles, and working alongside engineering or growth teams is relevant. A PMP certification strengthens your profile but isn't always required. For visa sponsorship purposes, having a bachelor's degree in a related field is essential to satisfy USCIS specialty occupation requirements.
How do I apply for Project Manager jobs at Whatnot?
You can browse and apply for Project Manager roles at Whatnot through Migrate Mate, which filters open positions by visa sponsorship compatibility so you can confirm the role supports your status before applying. When you apply, tailor your materials to Whatnot's live commerce context, emphasizing operational coordination, cross-functional delivery, and experience in platform or marketplace environments. Reaching out to the hiring team after submitting can help your application stand out in a competitive pool.
How do I time my application to account for H-1B cap deadlines?
The H-1B lottery registration window typically opens in early March for an October 1 start date. If you're targeting cap-subject H-1B sponsorship at Whatnot, you need your employer to register you before that window closes. Start conversations with the hiring team no later than January. If you're on F-1 OPT when you receive an offer, verify whether your OPT expiration date falls within the cap-gap protection period, which bridges your status until October 1 if your H-1B is selected.
