Compliance Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a compliance in California?
Most compliance roles in California require a bachelor's degree in business, law, finance, or a related field as a starting point. While California does not issue a single state license for compliance professionals broadly, employers across financial services and healthcare strongly prefer candidates who hold recognized credentials such as the Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional (CCEP) through the Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics or the Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) for banking roles.
How much do compliances make in California?
Compliances in California earn a median of about $96,980 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $57,530 for the lowest 10% to over $158,280 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire compliances in California?
Employers hiring compliances in California right now include Jobot, Apple, and Revolution Medicines, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of regulated industries, from biotech and health systems to fintech and defense contractors, means the employer base is unusually broad compared with most states.
Which California cities have the most compliance jobs?
San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego are the California cities with the most compliance openings. Los Angeles draws heavily from its entertainment, finance, and healthcare sectors, San Francisco and its Bay Area neighbors concentrate fintech, tech, and venture-backed firms, while San Diego's life sciences and defense industries sustain steady demand even outside the two larger metros.
Are there remote compliance jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 26% of compliance openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting that much of the work involves policy review, documentation, and regulatory analysis rather than on-site presence. Roles in financial compliance, privacy, and regulatory affairs tend to offer the most location flexibility, while positions requiring on-site audits or physical inspections are more consistently in-office.
How can I get hired as a compliance in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a compliance analyst or compliance coordinator role, which large California employers in healthcare and financial services regularly fill with candidates from adjacent backgrounds such as paralegal, audit support, or regulatory operations. Kaiser Permanente, Sutter Health, and major California-chartered banks post associate-level compliance openings that do not require prior compliance titles. Completing the CCEP Candidate program or a California Community College paralegal certificate gives early-career applicants a concrete credential that hiring managers recognize.
Where can I find and apply to compliance jobs in California?
