The Field Operations Crane & Rigging Manager will be responsible for overseeing all heavy lifting and rigging operations, working closely with Project Management to ensure qualified Field Operations personnel are assigned to meet project requirements. They will work with the Field Operations Directors and other Field Operations Managers to forecast the personnel and equipment requirements of projects, ensuring the best utilization of department resources. The Field Operations Crane and Rigging Manager will work with CDB Management and Global Practice Management to make sure that the planned work is delivered safely, within compliance of lifting standards, and on time. The performance of personnel assigned to this manager will be monitored to ensure performance is in accordance with the policies and procedures set forth in the Field Operations Guide, HSES Program, Quality procedures, and industry-standard crane and rigging protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

Crane & Rigging Specific

• Provide expert constructability input and strategic direction to project teams regarding crane selection, sizing, placement, and rigging methodologies.
• Review, analyze, and approve Lift Plans, Critical Lift Plans, and complex rigging engineering calculations to ensure safe load handling.
• Oversee and audit crane Assembly/Disassembly (A/D) procedures and ensure compliance with manufacturer specifications.
• Audit and verify ground conditions, ground bearing pressure calculations, and crane matting plans prior to critical lifts.
• Ensure strict project compliance with OSHA 1926 Subpart CC (Cranes and Derricks in Construction), ASME B30 standards, and site-specific lifting policies.
• Evaluate, assess, and qualify crane operators, riggers, and signal persons to ensure they meet competency and certification requirements.
• Manage the selection, sourcing, and mobilization of heavy equipment, including crawler cranes, rough terrain cranes, tower cranes, and specialized rigging gear.
• Ensure all crane and rigging equipment undergoes proper daily, monthly, and annual inspections, maintaining records of third-party certifications and maintenance logs.
• Act as the primary Subject Matter Expert (SME) during root cause investigations for any incidents, near misses, or accidents related to cranes, rigging, or load handling.

Health, Safety, & Quality

• Understand and enforce the Company Health, Safety, Environmental, and Security (HSES) Policies and Processes as they affect operations.
• Adhere to Burns & McDonnell’s safety programs, training, and policies as well as collaborate with the project team to manage the Safety & Health performance of project team members, contractors, and subcontractors.
• Set standards and lead by example in health, safety, quality, and environmental management.
• Review and assess project safety, quality, progress, and financials.
• Ensure compliance with company and site safety policies.
• Responsible for overall QA/QC process adherence.

Leadership & Management

• Identify, recruit, and hire both CWK and Employee-Owner candidates for Field Operations positions, particularly focusing on highly skilled crane and rigging personnel.
• Work with HR business partners in managing performance and disciplinary action when required.
• Lead and motivate a team of employees and CWKs to deliver all aspects of onsite project delivery.
• Provide assessment, coaching, and training to ensure Field Operations staff are performing to required expectations.
• Identify and address training opportunities for staff, particularly continuous education on lifting technologies and safety standards.
• Responsible for conducting performance evaluations for department staff.
• Forecast prospective project staffing and heavy equipment needs.
• Produce and update staffing and equipment utilization reports for Senior Management.
• Contribute towards the production and review of site and construction procedures to ensure they are practical and aligned with good working practices.
• Advise project teams on the logistical plans for crane mobilization and demobilization.
• Conduct periodic site visits, audit lifting operations, and report findings.
• Provide operational and functional management advice on the practical implementation of the company’s policies and processes.
• Promote best practices and share knowledge across departments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field and 7 years of relevant construction experience required.
• Or additional applicable experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.
• NCCCO Accreditation required (Specific certifications such as Lift Director, Rigger Level II, or Mobile Crane Operator highly preferred).
• Deep technical understanding of crane load charts, center of gravity calculations, rigging capacities, and wire rope specifications.
• Familiarity with lift planning software (e.g., 3D Lift Plan, CRTI) is highly desirable.
• Extensive knowledge of OSHA regulations (especially 1926 Subpart CC) and ASME B30 standards.
• Excellent computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Access).
• Experience with document control, scheduling, cost control, and project management software is preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong organizational skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
• Ability to handle large volumes of work and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
• Multiple years of experience on construction project sites or executing program management in the industries of aviation, commercial, energy, government, manufacturing, oil & gas, process, transmission & distribution, transportation, or water is preferred.
• A basic understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles is preferred.
• Must be able to meet the company's driving requirements.
• OSHA 10-hour or 30-hour certification preferred.
