Hotel Manager Jobs in Iowa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a hotel manager in Iowa?
Iowa does not require a state-issued license specifically for hotel managers, but properties must hold an Iowa lodging establishment license issued through the Iowa Department of Inspections, Appeals, and Licensing, and managers are responsible for maintaining compliance. Most Iowa employers expect a degree in hospitality management or business along with several years of supervisory experience at a hotel or lodging property. Completing a Certified Hotel Administrator credential through the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute strengthens your candidacy significantly.
Which companies hire hotel managers in Iowa?
Iowa hotel manager roles are posted by Marriott International, Holiday Inn, and Element Hotel and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Iowa's mix of convention-focused urban hotels and regional leisure properties means openings appear across both large national franchise operators and independently managed boutique and resort properties.
Which Iowa cities have the most hotel manager jobs?
Bettendorf, Johnston, and Iowa City have the most hotel manager openings in Iowa. Des Moines anchors demand as the state's largest convention and corporate travel market, while Cedar Rapids draws consistent activity from its manufacturing and technology employer base, and Iowa City sees steady hospitality hiring tied to the University of Iowa and its medical center.
Are there remote hotel manager jobs in Iowa?
Yes, but they're rare. Hotel management is fundamentally an on-site, operations-driven role, and most positions require a daily physical presence on property. About 0% of hotel manager openings tied to Iowa are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those tend to be corporate-level roles in revenue management, regional oversight, or training and development rather than general manager positions at a single property.
How can I get hired as a hotel manager in Iowa with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is starting in a front desk, guest services, or food and beverage supervisor role at an Iowa property and advancing internally. Marriott and Hilton franchise properties across Des Moines and Cedar Rapids regularly promote from within and run structured management development tracks. Earning a Certified Rooms Division Executive or similar credential through the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute signals readiness for a management role even without a long tenure. Iowa community colleges such as Des Moines Area Community College also offer hospitality programs that connect students directly with local employer internships.
Where can I find and apply to hotel manager jobs in Iowa?
You can find and apply to hotel manager jobs in Iowa on Migrate Mate, which lists current Iowa openings across properties and employer types. Search the listings, find the roles that match your experience and preferred location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
