Hotel Manager Jobs in Michigan: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a hotel manager in Michigan?
Most hotel manager roles in Michigan require a bachelor's degree in hospitality management, hotel administration, or business, though candidates with an associate degree and strong operational experience are also considered. Michigan does not issue a state-level hotel manager license, but properties serving alcohol must comply with Michigan Liquor Control Commission rules, and managers are expected to understand those requirements. Many Michigan employers favor candidates who have completed American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute certifications such as the Certified Hotel Administrator credential.
Which companies hire hotel managers in Michigan?
Michigan hotel manager roles are posted by Holiday Inn Express and Suites, Hyatt, and Vizybuzz and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Michigan's mix of urban convention properties in Detroit and Grand Rapids and seasonal resort properties in Traverse City and Mackinac Island means openings appear across both full-service branded hotels and independent destination properties throughout the year.
Which Michigan cities have the most hotel manager jobs?
Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids, and Flint account for the largest share of hotel manager openings in Michigan. Detroit anchors demand through its convention center, automotive industry headquarters hotels, and casino-resort complexes, while Grand Rapids draws consistent hiring through its growing meetings and events market, and Traverse City generates openings tied to its nationally recognized wine and resort tourism season.
Are there remote hotel manager jobs in Michigan?
Yes, but they're rare. Hotel management is a hands-on, property-based role, so the majority of positions require a physical on-site presence. About 6% of hotel manager openings tied to Michigan are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, and those tend to be corporate-level or multi-property roles in revenue management, regional operations, or sales where travel replaces a fixed office rather than true remote work.
How can I get hired as a hotel manager in Michigan with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a supervisory role from a front desk, food and beverage, or housekeeping position at a full-service Michigan property. Large operators including Marriott and Hilton properties in Detroit and Grand Rapids hire assistant managers from their own hourly and supervisory staff through internal development programs. Pursuing a Certified Hospitality Supervisor designation through the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute strengthens a candidacy before a formal management title is achieved.
Where can I find and apply to hotel manager jobs in Michigan?
You can find and apply to hotel manager jobs in Michigan on Migrate Mate, which lists current Michigan openings across full-service hotels, resort properties, and extended-stay brands. Search the listings, find roles that match your experience and preferred location, and apply directly to the employer.
