Restaurant General Manager Jobs in Michigan: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a restaurant general manager in Michigan?
Most restaurant general managers in Michigan move up through assistant manager or kitchen supervisor roles within full-service or fast-casual operations. Michigan does not require a state-issued management license for the role itself, but operators expect a current ServSafe Manager Certification and, for locations serving alcohol, working knowledge of Michigan Liquor Control Commission rules. A hospitality or business degree strengthens candidacy at larger corporate or hotel-affiliated dining operations.
How much do restaurant general managers make in Michigan?
Restaurant general managers in Michigan earn a median of about $60,790 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $41,600 for the lowest 10% to over $93,180 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire restaurant general managers in Michigan?
Employers hiring restaurant general managers in Michigan right now include KFC, Wendy's, and Meijer, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Michigan's dense mix of regional franchise groups, independent full-service restaurants, and hotel food and beverage programs means hiring is spread across corporate chains and locally owned multi-unit operators alike.
Which Michigan cities have the most restaurant general manager jobs?
Detroit, Armada, and Battle Creek carry the most restaurant general manager openings in Michigan. Detroit's large population and robust entertainment and sports venue dining scene drive the highest volume, while Grand Rapids has grown into a strong second market on the strength of its expanding craft food and hospitality industry, and Lansing's state government workforce and university presence sustain steady demand for full-service dining operators.
Are there remote restaurant general manager jobs in Michigan?
Yes, but they're rare. Restaurant general management is an inherently on-site role requiring daily oversight of staff, guests, and operations. About 3% of restaurant general manager openings tied to Michigan are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions typically involve regional or district oversight responsibilities rather than hands-on single-unit management. Pure remote work is uncommon in this field.
How can I get hired as a restaurant general manager in Michigan with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a shift supervisor or assistant manager role at a Michigan-based franchise group or multi-unit operator, then building toward a general manager title internally. Large Michigan franchise operators and hotel-affiliated food and beverage departments regularly hire candidates with strong front-of-house or kitchen experience into management training programs. Earning a ServSafe Manager Certification before applying gives candidates a concrete credential that offsets limited formal management experience.
Where can I find and apply to restaurant general manager jobs in Michigan?
You can find and apply to restaurant general manager jobs in Michigan on Migrate Mate, which lists current Michigan openings updated regularly. Find the roles that fit your experience and location preference and apply directly to each one.
