Restaurant General Manager Jobs in Tennessee: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a restaurant general manager in Tennessee?
Most restaurant general managers in Tennessee move up through assistant manager or kitchen supervisor roles within a restaurant group rather than through a state-issued license. Tennessee does not require a specific GM license, but employers consistently expect a ServSafe Manager certification, which is accredited by the American National Standards Institute and recognized statewide. A degree in hospitality management, business, or culinary arts from institutions like the University of Tennessee or Nashville State Community College strengthens candidacy.
Which companies hire restaurant general managers in Tennessee?
Employers hiring restaurant general managers in Tennessee right now include Cook Out Restaurants, Bojangles', and Popeyes, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Tennessee's blend of corporate headquarters, tourism-driven hospitality, and a growing food scene in Nashville gives the state a diverse mix of national chains and independent groups actively seeking experienced managers.
Which Tennessee cities have the most restaurant general manager jobs?
Nashville, Memphis, and Dickson have the most restaurant general manager openings in Tennessee. Nashville leads due to its booming tourism and entertainment district, which supports a dense concentration of full-service and fast-casual concepts, while Memphis draws openings from its established hospitality corridor along Beale Street and major hotel-restaurant operators, and Knoxville adds volume through its growing downtown dining scene and university-area traffic.
Are there remote restaurant general manager jobs in Tennessee?
Yes, but they're rare. Restaurant general management is an on-site leadership role requiring daily floor presence, staff supervision, and guest interaction, so remote arrangements are uncommon. About 0% of restaurant general manager openings tied to Tennessee are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, and those positions typically involve regional or multi-unit oversight roles where corporate coordination and reporting can be handled off-site.
How can I get hired as a restaurant general manager in Tennessee with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is starting as a shift supervisor or assistant manager within a Tennessee-based multi-unit group, which gives you direct exposure to P&L, scheduling, and compliance. Large operators like Darden and Cracker Barrel, both with significant Tennessee footprints, run internal management development programs that promote from within. Earning a ServSafe Manager certification early signals readiness to hiring managers and often moves candidates ahead in the screening process.
Where can I find and apply to restaurant general manager jobs in Tennessee?
