JOB TITLE: Food Services Cafeteria Supervisor

SUPERVISOR: Chief Operating Officer

JOB SUMMARY/SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:

The cafeteria supervisor is responsible for supervision of operation of the food services department and operates under the supervision of the Chief Operating Officer. This is a non-exempt (not salaried) job with 40 hours per week as a workweek. Work hours are 8AM - 4PM daily, Monday through Friday. Some overtime may be incurred but only with the approval of the Chief Operating Office. Hours outside of day shift and some Saturday and/or Sunday work may be required. The cafeteria manager may fill in for cafeteria staff at times.

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are provided seven days a week.

Major responsibility areas:

Staff – Including:

· Day to day supervision

· Time sheet maintenance

· Training specific to cafeteria, i.e. USDA standards, customer service, food preparation techniques.

Food Delivery System – Including:

· Implementation of dietitian approved menus

· Purchasing and payment of food

USDA – Including:

· Menus converted to USDA guidelines

· Food consumption tracking

· USDA reporting and audit.

Budgeting – Input of non-staffing cafeteria costs

Essential job functions are:

Computer skills including:

· Intermediate use and knowledge of Microsoft products, Word and Excel.

· Working knowledge of email systems and the internet.

· Excellent keyboarding skills

· Ability to develop and maintain spreadsheets including writing formulas

Customer Service Skills:

· Ability to develop, deliver and maintain systems that meet the needs of the customer.

· Ability to train staff to deliver excellent customer service.

Ability to train staff to deliver better food preparation.

Communication Skills:

· Ability to communicate effectively with Youth Town employees, professionally and tactfully.

· Ability to maintain good relationships with staff during all situations.

· Ability to provide growth related feedback as needed.

· Good written communication skills, including composition, grammar, spelling, and consideration of audience.

· Ability to document employee performance.

· Ability to work within the Youth Town culture.

Job Specifications:

Education:

Minimum high school diploma.

Culinary education in high school, technical school, or college preferred.

Prior Experience:

Minimum two year experience in food services that includes but isn’t limited to the following: purchasing, preparation of meals in large quantities, inventory management, budgeting skills, leadership and supervision.

Special Skills:

Knowledge of food groups and foods within each group.

Ability to break a food into its group components.

Physical:

· Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as needed.

· Ability to stoop, bend and/or reach and remain flexible throughout a scheduled shift.

· Ability to intervene with resident if required.

· Ability to fill in for cafeteria staff and preform daily duties.

Resident Interaction:

· Ability to work with service recipients who are mentally ill, emotionally disturbed and /or chemical dependent who are at high risk for volatile and/or unpredictable behavior.

· Help manage service recipient behavior using agency-designated crisis management training and intervene in crisis situations when immediate attention is warranted.

· Assist direct care staff in interventions if needed.

Driving:

· Driving record to support driving Youth Town vehicles and being covered on Youth Town insurance.

· Personal vehicle insurance in the event of using personal vehicle for Youth Town business.

Direction and Supervision of others:

· Ability to monitor work of department staff to ensure they are meeting department and agency guidelines in a quality conscious and cost effective manner.

Environmental Conditions:

Standard office conditions along with working in various settings to include shopping for food. May be exposed to communicable diseases and bio-hazardous materials. Must be prepared to travel in all kinds of weather conditions throughout the facility’s service area.

License, Registration, Certification

CPR, First Aid, TCI. Tennessee Driver License. Agency-Designated pre-service and on-the-job training hours and additional hours of annual training as required. Therapeutic Crisis Intervention training will be provided by Youth Town.
