Welcome to Advance Plumbing & Heating Supply Company, a fourth-generation family owned and operated business, started in 1920. The company's original location was at 2984 Grand River Ave. in Detroit, across from the Motor City Casino. On October 31st, 2016 we moved to our new location at 150 Parsons St. in Midtown Detroit. The new state-of-the-art location features the City of Detroit's first ever Decorative Plumbing Showroom which opened in winter of 2018.
In 1990, with a solid reputation for excellence and an expanding market, Advance opened a second location in Walled Lake, Michigan which features a state-of-the-art 5,000-square foot decorative plumbing showroom and an outstanding plumbing & heating parts counter.
What You’ll Do:
The Inside Sales Specialist is an elevated sales support role focused on preparing accurate bids, quotes, and product solutions for contractors and other customers. This position combines strong product knowledge, responsive follow-through, and close coordination with customers, vendors, and branch team members. The Inside Sales Specialist also serves as a trusted backup at the sales counter to help maintain a seamless customer experience during busy periods and team absences.
Some Duties May Include:
- Prepare accurate, timely bids, quotes, and proposals based on customer specifications, plans, and product requirements
- Review bid documents and product information to identify scope, availability, lead times, pricing, and potential alternatives
- Follow up on open quotes and bids, document customer feedback, and support conversion of opportunities into profitable orders
- Develop and maintain relationships with customers, vendors, and manufacturer representatives while providing responsive service
- Coordinate with purchasing, warehouse, delivery, counter, and other branch personnel from order entry through delivery and follow-up
- Recommend suitable alternatives and complementary products that meet customer needs and support profitable sales
- Maintain accurate customer, pricing, quote, and order information in the company ERP and related systems
- Continually strengthen sales skills and product knowledge across pipes, valves, fittings, plumbing, heating, and related products
- Provide backup counter coverage by assisting walk-in customers, processing sales and payments, answering phones, and helping with order pickup
- Provide ongoing support to the Outside Sales Team

- Ability to read and interpret customer requests, product specifications, and bid documents with a high level of accuracy
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, time-management, and follow-through skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment
- Confidence communicating with contractors, customers, vendors, and internal team members by phone, email, and in person
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, point-of-sale systems, ERP software, and database tools
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds when supporting counter operations and customer pickups
- Ability to call on existing customers as a touch point while providing product knowledge and build value with the customer/contractor
