Role Summary
The Manufacturing Engineer is a hands-on role responsible for designing, evaluating, and improving manufacturing processes, tooling, and fixtures to increase efficiency, quality, and throughput on the production floor. This person works daily on the shop floor to implement designs directly into the manufacturing environment — building, testing, and refining tooling and processes alongside production teams rather than working primarily from a desk.
Key Responsibilities
- Spend the majority of time on the shop floor building, testing, and implementing tooling, fixtures, and process changes directly with production teams.
- Design, build, and refine tooling, fixtures, and jigs to support welding, robotic welding, tube bending, laser cutting, machining, sanding/finishing, powder coating, and assembly processes.
- Program, set up, and troubleshoot CNC equipment (including laser cutting, tube bending, and robotic welding cells) to produce parts to spec and optimize cycle times.
- Support and optimize the powder coating line, including fixture design and process flow to maintain line speed and coating quality.
- Utilize 3D printing to develop prototypes, fixtures, and low-volume production aids.
- Create and maintain CAD models and engineering drawings using NX and SolidWorks to support tooling design, process development, and new product introductions.
- Lead root-cause analysis on production issues (quality defects, equipment downtime, process bottlenecks) across welding, fabrication, coating, and finishing operations, and drive corrective actions on the floor in real time.
- Partner with production, quality, and planning teams to identify and implement continuous improvement projects.
- Support new product introductions by developing manufacturing processes, routings, and work instructions, and physically standing up new processes on the line.
- Evaluate and recommend new equipment, tooling, or process technologies to improve capacity, quality, or cost.
- Maintain accurate process documentation, BOMs, and routings in the ERP system.
Required Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with fabrication and CNC equipment, including welding, robotic welding, tube bending, laser cutting, and sanding/finishing processes.
- Experience with 3D printing and CAD software such as NX and SolidWorks.
- 2–3 years of experience in a manufacturing engineering or related production role, with regular time spent on the shop floor.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with a hands-on, shop-floor approach.
- Ability to read and create technical drawings and specifications, and translate them into working processes on the floor.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with powder coating or other finishing/coating processes.
- Experience with ERP systems (routings, BOMs, work centers) — Odoo experience a plus.
- Background in automotive aftermarket, off-road, or performance parts manufacturing.
