Nurse Manager Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a nurse manager in New York?
Becoming a nurse manager in New York starts with holding an active registered nurse license issued by the New York State Education Department, which requires passing the NCLEX-RN. Most New York employers also require a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and larger academic systems increasingly prefer a Master of Science in Nursing or an MBA with a healthcare focus. From there, the typical path runs through charge nurse or senior staff roles before moving into formal management.
Which companies hire nurse managers in New York?
Employers hiring nurse managers in New York right now include NYU Langone Health, Northwell Health, and Sun River Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's concentration of large integrated health systems and academic medical centers means hiring is ongoing rather than seasonal, with the most volume coming from organizations operating across multiple boroughs or regions.
Which New York cities have the most nurse manager jobs?
New York, Rochester, and Syracuse have the most nurse manager openings in New York. New York City accounts for the largest share by far given its density of major hospital systems and academic medical centers, while Buffalo and Albany draw volume from regional health networks and state government health facilities that anchor those markets.
Are there remote nurse manager jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. Nurse manager roles are primarily on-site because the work involves direct oversight of clinical staff and patient care units. About 2% of nurse manager openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions typically involve utilization review, case management leadership, or telehealth program management rather than floor-based supervision.
How can I get hired as a nurse manager in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a charge nurse role, which most large New York systems such as Northwell Health and NYU Langone Health use as a structured step into management. Northwell's nurse leadership development programs and NewYork-Presbyterian's clinical advancement tracks are designed for experienced staff nurses ready to move into supervisory responsibilities. Earning your Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a New York State Education Department-approved program and pursuing a Nurse Executive certification through AONE strengthens your candidacy before you apply.
