Restaurant General Manager Jobs in Pennsylvania: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a restaurant general manager in Pennsylvania?
Most Pennsylvania restaurant general managers work their way up through supervisory roles such as shift manager or assistant manager before stepping into a general manager position. Pennsylvania does not require a state-issued management license for the role itself, but employers consistently expect a current Food Safety Manager certification from a state-approved program. A degree in hospitality management, business administration, or a related field strengthens candidacy at full-service and multi-unit operations throughout the state.
Which companies hire restaurant general managers in Pennsylvania?
Pennsylvania restaurant general manager roles are posted by Summerwood Corporation, Burger King, and Wendy's and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Pennsylvania's concentration of large hotel and convention properties, regional casual-dining chains, and contract food service operations creates ongoing demand for experienced general managers at both independent and corporate locations.
Which Pennsylvania cities have the most restaurant general manager jobs?
Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Uniontown account for the greatest concentration of restaurant general manager openings in Pennsylvania. Philadelphia dominates by volume because of its dense urban dining scene, major convention and hotel corridor, and large population base, while Pittsburgh's revitalized restaurant districts and Allentown's growing hospitality sector generate steady openings that keep both cities competitive for experienced candidates.
Are there remote restaurant general manager jobs in Pennsylvania?
Yes, but they're rare. About 0% of restaurant general manager openings tied to Pennsylvania are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how fundamentally hands-on the role is. The functions most likely to carry any remote flexibility are administrative tasks such as scheduling, vendor communication, and financial reporting, while floor management, staff supervision, and guest experience oversight remain fully on-site.
How can I get hired as a restaurant general manager in Pennsylvania with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is to secure an assistant manager or shift supervisor role at a Pennsylvania location of a larger operator such as Aramark, Eat'n Park, or a Darden-branded restaurant, where internal promotion pipelines are well established. Completing a hospitality management program at a Pennsylvania institution or earning a Food Safety Manager certification signals readiness for greater responsibility. Moving laterally from a bar manager, catering manager, or kitchen manager position is another recognized route Pennsylvania employers accept.
