Restaurant Jobs in Pennsylvania: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a restaurant worker in Pennsylvania?
Starting a restaurant career in Pennsylvania begins with obtaining a food handler certification recognized by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, with ServSafe being the most widely accepted credential among employers statewide. Most entry-level roles in kitchens or front-of-house require no formal degree, though culinary programs at institutions like the Pennsylvania Culinary Institute or community colleges in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh strengthen a candidate's prospects considerably. Bartending roles additionally require compliance with Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board regulations.
Which companies hire restaurants in Pennsylvania?
Companies currently hiring restaurants in Pennsylvania include Dunkin', Burger King, and Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant - Rightlane, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Pennsylvania's dense concentration of hotels, hospitals, sports venues, and university campuses means that large food service operators and contract dining companies consistently maintain some of the highest hiring volumes in the state.
Which Pennsylvania cities have the most restaurant jobs?
Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and King of Prussia lead Pennsylvania for restaurant job openings. Philadelphia dominates by volume given its size, tourism traffic, and convention activity, while Pittsburgh's revitalized dining scene and growing hospitality sector drive steady demand, and smaller metros like Allentown and Reading benefit from regional casino resorts, distribution hubs, and growing suburban dining strips that anchor consistent local hiring.
Are there remote restaurant jobs in Pennsylvania?
Yes, but they're rare. About 0% of restaurant openings tied to Pennsylvania are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, since the nature of restaurant work is almost entirely on-site and hands-on. The exceptions tend to be corporate roles attached to restaurant groups, such as regional marketing, menu development coordination, or training and development positions that can occasionally be performed partly off-site.
How can I get hired as a restaurant worker in Pennsylvania with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is a food runner, busser, or prep cook role, which large Pennsylvania employers and contract dining operators frequently fill without requiring prior experience. Aramark and Sodexo, both of which operate extensively across Pennsylvania university and healthcare campuses, run structured onboarding programs suited to first-time workers. Completing a ServSafe Food Handler certification before applying signals readiness and is often enough to move past initial screening for entry-level positions.
Where can I find and apply to restaurant jobs in Pennsylvania?
You can find and apply to restaurant jobs in Pennsylvania on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to Pennsylvania employers. Search the listings for roles that match your experience level and location, then apply directly to the positions that fit.
