Sales Business Development Jobs in Michigan: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a sales business development in Michigan?
Most sales business development roles in Michigan require a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related field, though no state-issued license is required for the role itself. Employers across Detroit's automotive corridor and Grand Rapids' manufacturing sector typically prioritize a documented record of quota attainment and CRM proficiency. Entry candidates often begin as business development representatives or inside sales associates, then move into full business development roles after demonstrating consistent pipeline generation.
How much do sales business developments make in Michigan?
Sales business developments in Michigan earn a median of about $72,980 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $39,740 for the lowest 10% to over $136,050 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire sales business developments in Michigan?
Employers hiring sales business developments in Michigan right now include Snap-on, Acoufelt, and Nidec NAMM, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Michigan's concentration of automotive OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers, and growing health technology companies creates sustained demand for business development professionals with both industrial and enterprise software backgrounds.
Which Michigan cities have the most sales business development jobs?
Troy, Auburn Hills, and Novi have the most sales business development openings in Michigan. Detroit's deep automotive and mobility ecosystem drives the largest share of demand, while Grand Rapids' expanding healthcare and manufacturing base supports a strong secondary market, and Ann Arbor's technology and university-affiliated startup sector draws enterprise software and SaaS-focused business development roles.
Are there remote sales business development jobs in Michigan?
Yes, and more than many fields, since business development work centered on outreach, pipeline management, and virtual demos translates well to remote settings. About 20% of sales business development openings tied to Michigan are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how broadly distributed the role's client base tends to be. Roles focused on territory management or in-person relationship building with automotive or manufacturing clients remain more likely to require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a sales business development in Michigan with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a business development representative or inside sales associate role, where Michigan employers such as automotive suppliers, healthcare technology firms, and managed services companies routinely hire candidates without prior business development experience. Large Grand Rapids and Detroit-area employers often run structured sales development programs that provide mentorship and quota ramp-up periods. A completed internship in B2B sales, a HubSpot or Salesforce certification, or experience in a customer-facing role such as account coordination or retail sales management strengthens an application considerably.
Where can I find and apply to sales business development jobs in Michigan?
