Sales Manager Jobs in Iowa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a sales manager in Iowa?
Most Iowa employers promote sales managers from within their sales teams, so the typical path starts as an individual contributor who consistently meets quota before taking on a team lead or assistant manager role. Iowa does not require a state-issued license to work as a sales manager in most industries, though roles in insurance sales management require an Iowa Insurance Producer License issued by the Iowa Insurance Division. A bachelor's degree in business or marketing strengthens candidacy across most sectors.
How much do sales managers make in Iowa?
Sales managers in Iowa earn a median of about $134,010 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $72,130 for the lowest 10% to over $220,770 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire sales managers in Iowa?
Iowa sales manager roles are posted by Von Maur, DSG, and Airgas and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Iowa's concentration of insurance, financial services, and manufacturing headquarters means large regional employers account for a significant share of open positions.
Which Iowa cities have the most sales manager jobs?
Davenport, Des Moines, and Cedar Falls have the most sales manager openings in Iowa. Des Moines dominates because it is home to major insurance and financial services headquarters, while Cedar Rapids draws openings from manufacturing and technology firms, and Davenport benefits from its position in the Quad Cities metro and its dense industrial and logistics employer base.
Are there remote sales manager jobs in Iowa?
Yes, but they are less common than in purely analytical roles because sales managers typically travel to support field reps and meet clients in person. About 67% of sales manager openings tied to Iowa are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, and the positions most likely to allow remote work are those overseeing inside sales teams or managing accounts that are handled entirely by phone and video.
How can I get hired as a sales manager in Iowa with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is landing an individual contributor sales role at a large Iowa employer and building a record of hitting quota before requesting consideration for a team lead assignment. Insurance carriers based in Des Moines, such as Principal Financial Group and Nationwide's Iowa operations, regularly hire entry-level sales associates with a path toward a licensed sales management role once the Iowa Insurance Producer License is obtained. Demonstrating familiarity with CRM tools and completing employer-sponsored leadership development programs gives candidates without formal management experience a concrete advantage.
