Sales Professional Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a sales professional in California?
Most sales professional roles in California require a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related field, though many employers hire candidates who demonstrate strong sales aptitude. For specialized sectors, additional credentials matter: medical device and pharmaceutical sales often expect life-sciences coursework or relevant clinical exposure, while real estate sales requires passing the California Department of Real Estate licensing exam. Building experience through inside sales, retail, or account coordination roles is the most common starting path.
How much do sales professionals make in California?
Sales professionals in California earn a median of about $76,490 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $43,200 for the lowest 10% to over $152,760 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire sales professionals in California?
Employers hiring sales professionals in California right now include Bank of America, JPMorganChase, and Sunrun, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of technology headquarters, large healthcare systems, and major financial institutions means the sales hiring market is unusually broad and active compared to most other states.
Which California cities have the most sales professional jobs?
Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Diego have the most sales professional openings in California. The distribution reflects the state's major economic clusters: San Francisco and its Bay Area suburbs anchor enterprise technology and SaaS sales, Los Angeles drives media, healthcare, and financial services sales, and San Diego supports a strong medical device and biotech sales market alongside defense and hospitality sectors.
Are there remote sales professional jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 9% of sales professional openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how broadly the industry has embraced distributed work since the shift to virtual selling. Inside sales, SaaS account executive, and business development roles are the most likely to be fully remote, while territory-based and field sales positions typically require in-person client visits.
How can I get hired as a sales professional in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through an inside sales representative or sales development representative role, which large California technology companies and healthcare organizations use specifically to develop early-career talent. Salesforce, Oracle, and Kaiser Permanente all run structured new-hire sales programs that provide coaching and a defined quota ramp. Candidates moving laterally from customer success, retail management, or account coordination bring transferable skills that California employers recognize. Completing a Salesforce certification strengthens any entry-level application significantly.
Where can I find and apply to sales professional jobs in California?
You can find and apply to sales professional jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings across industries and seniority levels. Search the listings to find roles that match your background and apply directly to the ones that fit.
