Most sales specialist roles in DC require a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related field, though no state-issued sales license is required to work in the District. Employers in the government contracting and technology sectors place heavy emphasis on relevant industry knowledge, CRM proficiency, and any clearance eligibility. Certifications such as Certified Professional Sales Person or HubSpot Sales credentials help candidates stand out in the competitive DC market.
Which companies hire sales specialists in District of Columbia?

Which District of Columbia cities have the most sales specialist jobs?
The cities with the most sales specialist openings in District of Columbia are Washington. Washington DC itself drives the largest share of demand due to its density of federal agencies, major contractors, and national associations, while Arlington and Bethesda generate strong secondary markets thanks to the headquarters and regional offices of large technology, defense, and healthcare employers based just outside the District.

Yes, and more than many comparable roles, particularly in technology and SaaS sales where remote work is well established. About 75% of sales specialist openings tied to District of Columbia are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the district's strong tech and association sectors.
