Staff Accountant Jobs in Delaware: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a staff accountant in Delaware?
A bachelor's degree in accounting or finance is the standard entry point for staff accountant roles in Delaware. Many employers, especially in Wilmington's corporate and financial services sector, prefer candidates who are actively pursuing CPA licensure through the Delaware State Board of Accountancy, which requires passing the Uniform CPA Exam and meeting experience requirements. Candidates who complete internships with Delaware-based corporations or regional public accounting firms are consistently more competitive in the local hiring market.
Which companies hire staff accountants in Delaware?
Employers hiring staff accountants in Delaware right now include NOVOGRADAC & COMPANY, HealthVerity, and Sc Associates, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Delaware's high concentration of Fortune 500 corporate headquarters and established pharmaceutical companies means demand for staff accountants remains consistent across multiple industries throughout the year.
Which Delaware cities have the most staff accountant jobs?
The cities with the most staff accountant openings in Delaware are Dover, Newark, and Newport. Wilmington drives the largest share of demand as the state's commercial and financial hub, home to major bank headquarters and corporate legal entities, while Newark benefits from its proximity to the University of Delaware and a growing cluster of technology and life sciences employers, and Dover draws openings from state government agencies and regional healthcare organizations.
Are there remote staff accountant jobs in Delaware?
Yes, and more than many fields, since staff accounting work is largely desk-based and document-driven. About 80% of staff accountant openings tied to Delaware are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting broader corporate flexibility in the region. The tasks most commonly performed remotely include journal entry preparation, account reconciliations, and financial reporting, while roles requiring physical invoice processing or on-site audit support tend to be in-person.
How can I get hired as a staff accountant in Delaware with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an accounting internship or a junior accounts payable or accounts receivable role at a Wilmington-area corporation or regional CPA firm, both of which regularly recruit new graduates. Large Delaware employers in financial services and pharmaceuticals often bring on accounting associates through structured rotational or new-graduate programs. Pursuing CPA candidacy through the Delaware State Board of Accountancy while applying for entry-level roles gives candidates a clear edge, and lateral moves from bookkeeping or payroll positions are a well-established route into staff accountant titles at smaller Delaware employers.
Where can I find and apply to staff accountant jobs in Delaware?
You can find and apply to staff accountant jobs in Delaware on Migrate Mate, which lists current Delaware openings updated regularly. Search the listings, find roles that match your background and target location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
