Business Development Manager — New England Territory
Designer Greetings, Inc.
The Role
We’re looking for a hunter. Designer Greetings is hiring a Business Development Manager to grow our business across New England, with a focus on the Greater Boston area. This is a field sales job. You will spend most of your week on the road, walking into stores, meeting buyers, and opening new accounts.
We need someone who has sold a physical product in the field — not services, not software, and not from behind a desk. You know how to cold-call, walk into a store unannounced, get in front of the decision-maker, and close. You don’t wait for leads; you create them.
If you like being on the road, enjoy the chase, and measure your success by the accounts you open, this job is for you.
Designer Greetings is one of the largest greeting card publishers in North America. Our line includes greeting cards, gift wrap, boxed notes, invitations, and boxed Christmas cards.
What You Will Do
● Prospect and open new accounts with independent retailers, regional chains, supermarkets, pharmacies, gift stores, and distributors.
● Generate your own leads through cold calls, in-person visits, referrals, and industry events.
● Run the full sales cycle: prospecting, presentations, negotiation, closing, and account setup.
● Build and manage a strong pipeline and hit your sales targets.
● Visit existing customers regularly and grow their business with us.
● Negotiate pricing and programs within company guidelines.
● Work with our internal teams to set up new accounts and keep them running smoothly.
● Track your activity and pipeline in our CRM and provide weekly sales reports.
● Represent Designer Greetings at trade shows and industry events as needed.
What We Are Looking For
● 3+ years of outside, field-based sales of a physical product (not services), with a focus on opening new accounts.
● Comfortable spending most of the week on the road, visiting stores and prospects in person.
● A track record of opening new accounts and meeting or exceeding sales goals.
● Strong prospecting, presentation, negotiation, and closing skills.
● Self-motivated and able to manage a territory independently with consistent follow-up.
● Comfortable using a CRM and standard business software.
● Valid driver's license, reliable vehicle, and current auto insurance.
● Willingness to travel throughout New England, including occasional overnight stays and company events outside the territory.
● Based in or near the Greater Boston area.
Nice to Have
● Experience selling greeting cards, gifts, stationery, or consumer packaged goods.
● Existing relationships with New England retailers.
● Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related field.
Pay & Benefits
Base salary: $50,000–$65,000 per year, depending on experience, plus a performance-based bonus and a monthly car allowance.
● 401(k) with company match
● Health, dental, and life insurance
● Paid time off and paid company holidays
Schedule: Full-time, Monday to Friday
Work Location: Field-based, New England territory (Greater Boston preferred)
Compensation and Compliance
Compensation within the posted range will be based on experience and qualifications, and will comply with all applicable federal, state, and local pay transparency and equal pay laws.

Territory Business Manager Jobs in Massachusetts: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a territory business manager in Massachusetts?
Most territory business manager roles in Massachusetts require a bachelor's degree, ideally in business administration, life sciences, marketing, or a related field. The state does not issue a general sales license for this role, but candidates targeting life sciences or medical device companies benefit from completing manufacturer or industry training programs. Building experience in inside sales, account coordination, or clinical support roles at Massachusetts-based biotech or medtech firms is the most common path into a territory position.
How much do territory business managers make in Massachusetts?
Territory business managers in Massachusetts earn a median of about $191,200 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $100,510 for the lowest 10% to over $321,000 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire territory business managers in Massachusetts?
Employers hiring territory business managers in Massachusetts right now include argenx, Reckitt, and Belite Bio, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026. Massachusetts's concentration of life sciences headquarters and regional commercial offices means many of these postings come from companies running active field sales expansion across the Greater Boston and Route 128 corridor.
Which Massachusetts cities have the most territory business manager jobs?
Boston and Worcester account for the largest share of territory business manager openings in Massachusetts. Boston and Cambridge anchor the market because of the dense cluster of life sciences headquarters, hospital systems, and enterprise technology firms based there, while Worcester and other secondary markets reflect the reach of field territories that extend into central and western Massachusetts from those core hubs.
Are there remote territory business manager jobs in Massachusetts?
Yes, but they are rare. Territory business manager roles are by nature field-based, requiring regular in-person visits to clients, hospitals, or distributor accounts within an assigned geography. About 67% of territory business manager openings tied to Massachusetts are remote or hybrid as of November 2026, and those tend to concentrate in the account planning, reporting, and training components of the role rather than the core client-facing work.
How can I get hired as a territory business manager in Massachusetts with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through an inside sales associate or sales development representative role at a Massachusetts life sciences or technology company, which provides the CRM discipline and product knowledge that field managers look for when promoting from within. Large employers along the Route 128 corridor, including medical device and specialty pharma companies based in Bedford, Marlborough, and Burlington, regularly hire sales support and clinical specialist associates as feeder roles. Completing a recognized sales methodology certification and building familiarity with Salesforce gives entry-level candidates a clear edge in interviews.
